I have never read about the KonMari method or watched Marie Kondo's Netflix show, but enough of the phenomenon has leeched into the lexicon that I am familiar with the notion that your belongings should "spark joy" in you. Coincidentally, that's also my methodology for acquiring new clothes — that's the point of KonMari, right?
Anyway, my friend John sent me a shot of these mules from Nicolette Mason's Instagram Story and just said, "Extreme Tyler energy!!!" and when you're right, you're right. Pretty much everything about this shoe calls my name, from the rainbow color scheme and shiny lamé fabric to the knotted bow and chunky heel.
I've long loved the Penny style from Loeffler Randall, but New York City living doesn't always lend itself to a mule, so I was reluctant to pick up a pair. Now that I have, though, I don't know why I waited so long. They're going to be my go-to summer shoes for dressing up denim or pairing with a flirty skirt for an outdoor cocktail hour. At 3.5 inches, the style is a bit too high for every day — I love to walk around the city after work when it gets warm out, and my lower-heeled shoes are a better option — but knowing that I have them in my arsenal to bring out from time to time is already sparking joy in me.
Loeffler Randall Penny Knot Mule in Candy Stripe, $395, available here.
