Disney movies were probably my first true introduction to fashion: The Evil Queen in "Snow White" was unmatched with her black hood and gold crown. The padded shoulders on Ariel's wedding dress from "The Little Mermaid" were definitely channeling an '80s-era power woman vibe. And, of course, Princess Jasmine of "Aladdin" — arguably one of the best, if not the best, Disney princess — gave us the switch-up of a lifetime when she went from a blue two-piece to a red two-piece outfit in her efforts to defeat the wicked Jafar.
So it should be expected that Naomi Scott, who plays Princess Jasmine in the live-action version of the Disney classic, has to bring her fashion A-game for longtime fans like myself while embarking on the film's promotional press tour. For its first screening in Paris on Wednesday, she absolutely did, in an all-white look from Off-White's Spring 2019 collection, styled by Zadrian Smith. The shirt-and-skirt combination looks like your classic princess gown at first, but is actually a sporty revamp of the signature silhouette that's commonplace throughout the Disney universe. (Need a refresher? Check out Zendaya's take on Cinderella's dress at the Met Gala.) Who said that princesses can't also be athletes?
For her beauty look, Scott paired the fancy ensemble with pulled-back hair and a vibrant red lip that amplifies a regal aesthetic fit for a princess — and future queen, of course.
It appears that Scott is taking her role as the real-life embodiment of one of Disney's most fashion-forward and progressive princesses (not withstanding Mulan, who literally defied her family and fought a war on behalf of her father) very seriously, and we'll continue to keep an eager eye out for what the actor gives us on the red carpet during future tour stops.
