As it has gotten warmer out, I realized that most of my favorite sandals have one fatal flaw: They're tricky to get into. They either lace up my leg or have buckles at the ankle. This is a problem, because sometimes, when it's really nice out, you want to just slip your foot into a shoe and go.
That's why I'm finally caving and trying a shoe I haven't considered since middle school, at best: The Birkenstock slide. Specifically, the Arizona style, which seems to be the preferred choice of many in the city. It protects the feet from city grime better than my shoe nemesis, the flip-flop, and I am sure my dad will be delighted that I have picked out ergonomic footwear for once in my adult life.
I can't decide if I can pull these off in the same way so many others I know are able to do, but if it means getting outside faster, I can't say I particularly care.
Birkenstock Arizona Sandal in White, $99.95, available here.
