By now, Isabel Marant has so firmly established her aesthetic that it's as steady and reliable as a military clock: Oversize jackets, slouchy jeans and covetable boots are to be expected.
The twist, then, comes in the spirit of the clothes, and this season, Marant had a vacation on the brain. The first sign? The extremely short shorts that dominated the collection, whether cut-off and frayed for women or cropped and cuffed for men. There were also cream-colored crochet tops, printed boiler suits, floaty white dresses (again, short is the rule of the day) and brightly-colored knit ponchos. Easier to wear than the scalloped suede shorts might be: the accompanying loose-fitting button-downs in matching shades of rose and sage, or swirling tie-dye printed tees. The kerchief tops are begging to be worn by the festival set (well, the VIP, no-dust festival set, anyway), and one beaded fringed skirt is begging to make an appearance on a very, very late-night dance floor.
On the accessories front, the lace-up sandals may not be easy to throw on for your next beach trip, but they are sexy. And those beaded earrings will go with just about anything you'd want to wear on vacation. Bonus? They won't take up any extra room in your carry-on.
