If you thought your glittery garments were reserved for ringing in the new year or a disco-themed party, it may be time to reassess that belief for spring. On the Spring 2020 runways, designers are having more fun with sequins than floral prints, proving the shiny, glistening detail can be worn for absolutely any occasion (and season).

Marc Jacobs closed out New York Fashion Week on a sparkly note with a chorus of of shimmery gowns, setting the tone for what would be a very shiny stay in London. In the British capital, Michael Halpern presented his vision of old-school Oscars glamour, which consisted of floor-sweeping glitter trains and a bedazzled flared pantsuit. At David Koma, there was a sequined zebra-stripe catsuit and a lot of sparkly fringe. Designer duo Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida jazzed up an asymmetrical dress with twinkling red and blue sequins. And at Roland Mouret, the beaming embellishment appeared on a slew of garments, from a seafoam green bodysuit to a fitted cream-colored blazer.

Italian designers also got in on the glimmering action: Emporio Armani showed glitzy daywear with clear sequins, creating a see-through effect. Shortly after, Fendi debuted vacation-ready clothes featuring the glistening adornments — think an easy-to-throw on mini dress and a beach cover-up. The shimmer continued at Bottega Veneta on two smoldering sleeveless frocks; both of which we're sure to see at some after party during awards season.
