It's not uncommon for beauty brands to pull from the talent pools at magazines to bolster their own ranks. Editorial legend Linda Wells going on to hold a position at Revlon is perhaps the best-known example, but there have been many others making similar transitions in recent years as the media landscape becomes more uncertain and the beauty industry continues to thrive.

On Friday, another editor-in-chief joined their ranks: Drew Elliott of Paper. According to a press release, Elliott will step down from his post with the publication to become the new senior vice president and global creative director at MAC Cosmetics.

"Drew's ability to translate consumer data points into creative ideas — coupled with his deep knowledge of fashion, beauty, pop-culture and entertainment — make him ideally suited to lead creative while fueling the next chapter of MAC's growth," Senior Vice President and General Manager of MAC Philippe Pinatel said in a release.

At Paper, Elliott leaves behind a legacy of virality and traffic-driving shoots. He was responsible for the Kim Kardashian Paper cover that "broke the internet" in 2014, which was responsible for driving 5 million unique visitors to the publication's site within 30 hours of publishing. Since then, he's been the mastermind behind plenty of other Paper shoots that have lent greater credibility — and buzz — to the publication. He's also served as a judge on "America's Next Top Model."

Elliott will begin his new role at MAC on October 28, where he takes over for Toni Lakis. Stay tuned for news of who will step up to fill Elliott's shoes at Paper.
