Sally Singer to Depart From 'Vogue' [Updated]

The magazine's digital creative director is leaving after nearly 20 years at the brand.

Vogue's masthead lost another veteran editor this week: Sally Singer, the magazine's digital creative director, will be departing the publication. 

On Monday, The Cut reported that Vogue staffers were informed of her departure last week. "Sally and I have been talking about this for some time," said Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and the artistic director of Condé Nast, in a statement provided to Fashionista. "She's ready for a change, and as sad as I am as a colleague and as a friend to lose her, I am so excited to see what she does next. She is nothing less than a creative force and her contributions to the world of Vogue — print, digital, video and everything else — have been immeasurable."

Singer joined the glossy in 1999, initially as fashion news director, then as fashion features director. In 2010, she briefly left the Condé Nast title to became the editor-in-chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine. She returned to Vogue two years later to serve as the publication's digital creative director, where she was tasked with overseeing the launch of

It's been a quiet few months for Vogue, which lost a number of high profile editors in 2018, including Jill Demling, Eve Macsweeney and Selby Drummond; that same year, it was announced veteran fashion editors Tonne Goodman and Phyllis Posnick would be stepping down from full-time roles into a more freelance-based capacity.

According to The Cut, Stuart Emmrich, a veteran of the New York Times who ran its Styles section for seven years, is set to take a role at Vogue. A direct replacement for Singer has not yet been named.

UPDATE, Monday, Dec. 16, 1:55 p.m.: Stuart Emmrich tweeted out the official press release from Vogue announcing his new role as the Editor of In this newly created position, Emmrich will report to Anna Wintour and will oversee the title's digital content. 

"Stuart brings to Vogue not only his strong journalistic background, but a discerning understanding of the current news climate and a talent for finding new voices," said Wintour in the release. "The skills that he has spent his career honing align so well with the vision that we have for"
