See All the Critic Award-Winning Designs From FIT's 2024 Future of Fashion Runway
At FIT's annual "Future of Fashion" show, it was clear from the get-go that acknowledging fashion's future is not a means to ignore reality's present: Following the shutdown of the campus solidarity encampment, Pro-Palestine protesters awaited guests as they entered the Glasshouse for the event on Wednesday evening. The ongoing conflict in Gaza wasn't addressed on the runway (at Pratt's end-of-year catwalk, many students wore pins and scarves), which instead focused solely on the 80 looks across children's wear, intimate apparel, knitwear, sportswear and special occasions.
FIT students drew from robust inspiration, from sustainability and cultural heritage, for their collections, which translated to innovative shapes and experimental textures. Thirteen graduates received the revered Critic Awards, selected by designers and industry experts who worked closely with participants in each category throughout their spring semester: Stephanie She, Ryan DePaolo, Mai Nanao, Yilei Qian, Sofie Hultbom, Kea Oudom Seng, Keyeu Chen, Sunghye Park, Hayden Mullikin, Chloe Franzen, Everett Landers, Namwoo Kim and Madeline Hausner. Additionally, designers Grace Cooper and Irene Alexandra Cubides were named Macy's award winners.
