Great Outfits in Fashion History: Cindy Crawford's Fail-Proof Cold-Weather Outfit of 1990
There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
Crisp fall air will overtake the lasting summer heat soon enough, and in anticipation of this inevitable shift, I've begun the archival search for some tried-and-true outfit inspiration. One name keeps coming up: Cindy Crawford. Her street-style pictures are an abounding resource of simple, unfailing outfit combos. I also appreciate that she seems to share my affinity for an oversized leather jacket, mini hemline and sheer tights, which are (in my opinion) to be worn together as often as weather permits.
Crawford rocked a rendition of this infallible outfit combo on a brisk New York City evening in late February 1990, when attending "An American Tribute to Vaclav Havel and a Celebration of Democracy in Czechoslovakia," featuring performances by Paul Simon, James Taylor, Roberta Flack and more.

Her look for the night included a black turtleneck, striped skirt and leather blazer in rich chocolate brown, with black leather gloves and sheer tights for added warmth. She attended the event alongside former husband Richard Gere, whose brown leather jacket and neutral layers complimented Crawford's look for a prime his-and-hers fashion moment.
