One of the most exciting things about fashion week happens before it even begins--getting the invitations. And while many designers still choose to go with the standard invites (don't get us wrong--they're great too!), or emails (more eco-friendly, sure), we're all about the fancy ones. There's just something to be said about getting a little creative--so we wanted to put a spotlight on those designers that went above and beyond. It was all about the exploration of finding your own look for A Détacher’s spring 2014 collection. “I was thinking of the role of obedience or disobedience in the creation of a personal style,” designer Mona Kowalska explained backstage before the show.
Name: Julia What do you do? I'm the founder and CEO of NMRKT. What was the last thing you bought? Actually this Opening Ceremony x Adidas sports bra. What are you currently obsessed with? Assembly New York's entire collection. Their store has been an obsession for a long time, but since fall I haven't been able to keep my eyes and hands off their new line, to the point where the sales associates anticipate me coming in weekly. Mona Kowalska, the designer of A Détacher, has done a lot of thinking about travel for her Fall 2013 collection. Nothing was going to stop us from catching Jason Wu, Rag & Bone, SUNO and more on day three of NYFW, not even a blizzard. We put on our L.L. Bean boots and our game faces and sloshed from show to show. Thankfully there were some pleasant surprises in the form of mulled wine and Drew Barrymore at Rag & Bone; silly faces fram Cara Delevingne at Jason Wu; and celebs from Kate Nash to Nicky Hilton to Selita Ebanks, all of whom looked completely untouched by the wintry mix outside. One of the things we always look forward to in the pre-fashion week madness is all the pretty show invites that land on our desks. The invites often give you an idea of what to expect from the show, too. This season, we've seen neon, translucent pink rubber; holographic birds; and used Petri dishes (yes--really). We've rounded up some of the more eye-catching and creative NYFW invitations to show up in our mailbox so far. Aren't they pretty?
We've got more show notes and galleries up and ready for you to check out! A Détacher got knotty, Custo Barcelona showed an explosion of prints and colors, and Y-3 fêted their 10th anniversary.
