It's summertime (well, not quite, but it definitely feels like summer right now) and that means some of music's hottest acts are hitting the road to play a stage near you. So what're you gonna wear?
Alexis Bittar has taken his colorful outlook on jewelry to Bloomingdale’s for an exclusive collaboration with the department store.
When you get an email offering you an opportunity to interview the “fashion world’s favorite taxidermist,” you don’t ignore it. I mean, maybe some people do, but I didn’t... and I think I’m glad. Frank Zitz has worked with everyone from Louis Vuitton to Lord & Taylor. He even created "hybrids" for Alexis Bittar.
As we here in the Western world bid Movember goodbye, men in the Middle East are showing much more commitment to facial hair. If you doubted that Absolutely Fabulous was going to be able to stage a comeback, well, you're wrong. They pulled off a successful Christmas special (featuring Stella McCartney nonetheless), more episodes are forthcoming, and a feature film is reportedly in the works. So what now? The AbFab ladies just scored an advertising campaign with jeweler Alexis Bittar. Vogue UK caught up with the ladies and designer at the campaign shoot. Edina and Patsy don lots of bangles and kitschy New York Americana, and vamp for the camera.

Alexis Bittar's expertly-crafted jewelry is nothing if not unique. The time and care put into each piece is evident just by looking at them (or reading the paragraph-long descriptions on his website). The same cannot be said of the Kardashians' design oeuvre. So we were not exactly shocked this morning when we read that Alexis Bittar is accusing Kim Kardashian, to whom he has loaned out jewelry on multiple occasions, of copying his designs for her Belle Noel jewelry line. (It wouldn't be the first time.) He tells the Post, In the reality TV world, there are so many people coming out with lines to capitalize on their TV shows. They are not designers and they are just stealing. I passed the Dash pop up store on Broadway, and I saw that Kim’s pieces were very similar to mine, and she definitely has been taking note (of my designs). The tricky thing is that we have sent pieces to Kim in the past to wear, so now I have told my staff we cannot send anything to her. She was definitely influenced by my designs without a doubt. Was she?
So Irene didn't blow us away but Alexis Bittar's 2012 resort look book did (OK, we're exaggerating a lot, but still--look). Bittar's look books usually feature a mannequin not a model, but this season that mannequin has gone surreal. Every page is a unique and crazy photo-collage - the kind of thing you want to tear out and put on your bedroom wall between your Jordan Catalano poster and Sofia Coppola's Vogue Paris cover. So take a gander at the kooky compilations. It will definitely brighten this dreary day.
Refinery 29 chatted with Alexis Bittar this weekend at his San Francisco shop, and the jewelry designer dropped an exciting tidbit of information. Bittar revealed that his fashion week plans involve "doing a collaboration with Iris Apfel." It has only been a matter of time before this epic partnership between the two--both known for over-the-top baubles--became a reality.

It may be a small space, but it packs a lot of punch. Alexis Bittar is officially open for business in San Francisco, and the launch party Saturday night had people spilling onto the foggy sidewalks of Fillmore. The store stands out like a gem, with walls painted by artist Marcela D'Aprile, Bittar's ongoing taxidermy animal fixtures, and the requisite jewelry collection. When asked what took the designer so long to open an SF store, Alexis answered, “We came kinda gangbusters. We did four stores at once; one in San Francisco, two in LA, and Chicago. I think the location is absolutely perfect. We scouted in June and it's changed even since then. More stores have opened.” When I pointed out that Kiehls is relocating their upper Fillmore store to right across the street, Alexis cooed, “Oh, I love that.”
