It seems the honeymoon between the fashion industry and Tumblr is officially over. The first rumblings of a fall out came, as Mashable reported last night, from Jessica Coghan, director of digital marketing at Starworks Group, who voiced complaints about the platform--namely that Tumblr does not have an analytics board, making it hard for brands to measure their presence, and that the platform's NYFW sponsorship proposals were unreasonably pricey. Since then the floodgates have opened, with all sorts of people coming out of the woodwork to slam Tumblr--from Julie Fredrickson, who manages digital and social media at Ann Taylor and Raman Kia, director of digital and social media marketing at Starworks, to Tony King, creative director of digital agency King & Partners. Like Coghan, these industry players complained about Tumblr's lack of analytics, absurd sponsorship price points and many of them also went on to personally call out Tumblr's Fashion Director, Rich Tong.

Ann Taylor's going Ivy League. The wear-to-work retailer is looking to lure in clients before they even enter the workforce. But they're not targeting just any college kid preparing to go on job interviews--they're looking to cast five students from Columbia University to model for their online lookbook, which, according to a release, will be "a trusted resource that will provide female college/graduate students with fashion advice and career inspiration across a variety of different industries." This latest announcement fits with Ann Taylor's recent efforts to revive and freshen up the brand: they just signed Katie Holmes as the face of the brand and have been putting out strong J.Crew-esque collections with particularly great accessories for the past few seasons. So it follows that they're targeting a younger clientele.
When Ann Taylor unveiled its collection designed by last year's CFDA Fashion Fund nominees, we oohed and awed. And pouted. Because despite the fact that we would have bought the entire capsule--and we mean that--it was not produced. Today, we received good news that the samples--created by Joseph Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, Billy Reid, and Loden Dager, to name a few--are now up for auction on eBay, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the CFDA. Unfortunately, unless you're a size zero--and a Karlie Kloss zero at that--the only options are to bid on jewelry and accessories by Eddie Borgo and Pamela Love. Oh, and Robert Geller's outfit, which is a much more reasonable size 4. While we admit that those are pretty good options, we still wish Ann Taylor would have produced a proper collection with these guys. Mostly because I want the Loden Dager outfit real bad.
Ann Taylor continues their revamp efforts (ok, sometimes we've called it their J.Crew-ification) with today's announcement that Katie Holmes will be
