From Brian Atwood's post-Thanksgiving shopping trips with mom to Meredith Rollins's Manolo Blahnik score, read on for the fashion flock's Black Friday memories.
The jewelry designer managed to incorporate buzzy new Samsung gadgets into her runway show in a non-dorky way.
Jewelry designer Dana Lorenz's higher-end collection Fenton and her lower-priced diffusion line Fallon often get mixed up. But Lorenz is aiming to further distinguish Fallon from its big sister through today's relaunch of Fallonjewelry.com.
Hurricane Sandy is upon us--but the fashion industry isn't letting this Frankenstorm bring them down. We checked in with some of our favorite people in the industry--from The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine to Kelly Cutrone to DKNY PR Girl Aliza Licht--to find out how they prepped for tonight's storm. For an industry that's supposed to shun carbs we are collectively loaded up on them--as well as candy, nail polish, and fashion mags to read by scented candle light. Click through to see how everyone is getting ready. And above all, everybody stay safe!!
Don't get us wrong. We love Zara. They boil down trends as soon as they leave the runways and whip out their own version at a price point we can afford. But sometimes this fast fashion giant "interprets" designs a bit too literally. Case in point: This necklace, which has been in Fenton/Fallon's "Fallon Classiques" collection on and off since 2008.
The former intern who sued Harper's Bazaar back in February is now suing Dana Lorenz and the Fenton Fallon group, where she interned last summer. {NY Post} Black and yellow is fall's buzziest color combination. Unfortunately, it can potentially leave you looking like a bumblebee. Let FabSugar show you how to avoid a faux-pas and wear it the right way. {FabSugar} The United Arab Emirates is considering imposing tourist dress codes, banning short shorts and revealing dresses in the modest, Muslim nation. {HuffingtonPost} In the market for a breezy summer layering piece? Look no further than this quick and easy DIY. {Refinery29}
Because of the hideous gridlock that was rampant in the city last week, I sadly missed Fenton's presentation. Dana Lorenz's dual jewelry lines, Fenton/Fallon, are among my favorites, and I was really looking forward to seeing this collection. A palette cleanser of spectacular jewelry is always refreshing after endless runway shows. Not to mention, Lorenz is a finalist for this year's CFDA Vogue Fashion fund, and all eyes are on her creations. Her inspirations for the collection were Miami Art Deco architecture and 80s Italian design collective, The Memphis Group.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Vogue have just announced the ten finalists for the eighth-annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund initiative, which provides financial support and business mentorship for emerging designers. The chosen ten include some of our favorites like Altuzarra, Suno and Fenton/Fallon. Click through to see who else made the cut!
If you live in New York City and you like shiny things, the Fenton/Fallon sample sale should be your end-of-week priority. Not only will every, single piece in the sale be priced under $100, but so will every piece in designer Dana Lorenz's stellar vintage archive. Here are the deets:
When it comes to accessories, it doesn't get much cooler than Dana Lorenz's Fallon jewels and Taylor Tomasi-Hill. So naturally, we're dying over Fallon's vibrant fall campaign styled by the Marie Claire editor/street style icon. In the editorial-style photographs by Sharif Hamza, model Jana K wears an array of the latest FALLON baubles--cuffs galore and egyptian-style necklaces, piled onto her arms and around her neck in true Tomasi-Hill fashion. We didn't make it to the Dazed party at Don Hill's last night (although we heard a bunch of people got arrested, so maybe that's a good thing), but we did manage to stop by the Creatures of Comfort New York store launch on Mulberry Street and Style.com's 10th anniversary bash, which was taking place just a couple of blocks away. Creatures of Comfort, a Los Angeles-based brick and mortar store, label, and online shopping destination for Rachel Comey and VPL-lovers across the country, is opening up shop in New York. Owner Jade Lai hosted a party in her expansive new space last night, and tons of our favorite designers were there: Tiffany Tuttle, Comey, Peter Jensen, Victoria Bartlett, Daphne Javitch, and plenty more. And of course Lai around, not only touting her new storefront, but also her INCREDIBLE in-house collection, which both Leah and I melted over. It's gently priced--in the $150-$350 range--and everything is a mix and match of silk cropped blouses, tie-waist dresses, and loose blazers. Most was made from a delicate crepe, with some cotton mixed in. And the color palette? Seafoam, terra cotta, white, periwinkle...everything we want for spring. After fawning over the clothes, we chatted with our Carroll Gardens contingency--Izzy from RackedNY, Adele from Epaulet, and Jen from Bird. South Brooklyn is the best. But soon it was time to head to Lafayette for Style.com's 10th anniversary party.
We love Fenton/Fallon for its tough yet glossy appeal--now the guys get a chance to be adorned by Dana Lorenz. The designer just announced that she's launching a full-blown mens collection for Spring 2011, as well as collaborating with our favorite menswear designer Tim Hamilton on jewelry for his REDUX line. Lorenz's main collection will retail from retail from $150-$500 and includes leather-wrapped bracelets and necklaces. The designer says that she wants men to be at ease in her pieces. "Guys still want to wear things they forget they have on, that are comfortable and natural--but I wanted to push the boundaries of that a little.” For Hamilton, she's doing everything from pins and pendants to wallet chains--14 exclusive pieces in total. Here's a sneak peek at what's in store.
Fashion's Night Out is two weeks from tomorrow! There is more going on than we can even wrap our heads around. Having trouble deciding where you want to go and who you want to see the most? Well, if you're interested in catching a peak of one of your favorite designers, here's a roundup of where some of the biggest and the best will be on September 10. We've excluded most of the people we've already reported on. Also, it's almost safe to say that if someone isn't on this list, they will probably be at Barneys. Michael Kors Michael will be at his lifestyle store on Madison and 61st in New York City. He will be joined by TONY Award winner Idina Menzel, whom Michael will accompany on a selection of songs. Michael will also make an appearance nearby at Bloomingdale’s 59th street, where the “World of Michael” will be created to kick off a new Michael Kors handbag shop-in-shop. Tommy Hilfiger Tommy will be kicking off FNO and his brand’s 25th anniversary at Macy’s Herald Square. As we’ve reported, Macy’s will house “The Ultimate Tailgate Party” as inspired by Tommy’s most recent ad campaign. Tommy will be accompanied by Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren. He will also make an appearance at his Fifth Avenue store, where shoppers can have their purchases personalized with an exploding monogram while they shop, listen to DJ Toddlerone and drink up.
Last night Dana Lorenz of Fenton Fallon dumped out her precious craft box to let fashion bloggers have a go at creating their own Fenton Fallon-ish necklaces. The tables were lined with all the bits and baubles that go into making that one-of-a-kind Fenton Fallon jewelry we love: heavy strips of chain in neon colors, fat strands of pearls, scraps of rhinestone costume jewelry, and much much more. It was overwhelming. Luckily there were martinis on hand (because there's nothing like a martini for making working with tiny jewelry pliers easier).
While I typically wear delicate gold jewelry, lately I've been obsessing over chunky, bold earrings that are too beautiful to ignore. nextpage Elva
We're not huge on sparkles, but when talents like menswear great Simon Spurr, Fenton/Fallon jewelry master Dana Lorenz and It-designers Prabal Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra create with crystals, we take notice. This morning's breakfast at Swarovski's Creative Service Center--which is kind of like a candy store for designers who love crystals instead of kids who love sweets--celebrated the new shine-heavy capsule collection created by the foursome, along with Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Eddie Borgo, Richard Chai and Patrick Ervell. Each designer, natch, is nominated for the CFDA's Swarovski Award in his or her respective category.
