America's Next Top Model reject Fatima Siad is Hervé Léger's mane (see what we did there?) chick, while Karlie Kloss smolders with sweet ferocity for
Every season, we notice a few key designer items that populate street style blogs more consistently than others. They're those must-have, eye-catching pieces that end up on waiting lists because editors and other girls about town snatch them up first (probably on Moda Operandi, long before they hit stores). And then we see them on street style sites on the backs of people like Anna Dello Russo and Carine Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt. Lately, it's been Isabel Marant jeans, Celine everything, Miu Miu booties. But what will it be next spring? We've taken another look at the spring 2012 collections to predict what we think will be catching the eyes of Scott, Tommy, Phil et al come February. Or, alternately, here is what we think those of you hoping to end up on a street style site, should wear.
And another one bites the dust: Yep, Milan Fashion Week is officially over. But just because the designers and models have all packed their bags and high-tailed it to Paris, doesn't mean we can't take a moment here to savor the sweet taste of Milano's shows, which saw a bevy of retro inspired and ladylike collections. Read on to see our 10 favorite shows from Milan Fashion Week. **All photos Imaxtree
Start doing your sit-ups now because the crop top is having its resurgence moment for spring 2012. Everyone from Acne to D&G to Prada showed crop tops
MILAN--For its swan song show, D&G explored one simple theme: scarves. On shoes and hats, as belts or bras. Giant scarves became entire dresses, tiny little ones kept sandals strapped onto feet. In what could have been a wink at Hermès’ recent carré-loving project, D&G’s show yesterday explored the silk square’s thousandfold uses--all in their trademark multicolored patterns.
Dolce & Gabbana has just announced that today's spring 2012 show for its D&G diffusion line will be the label's last, WWD is reporting. The trade reported back in March that there were rumors that D&G was on its last legs. Sources close to the designers as well as Italian retailers said that the two lines were "cannabalizing" each other because they were too close in price. Other retailers actually expressed surprise at the rumors, because the D&G line did especially well in Asia and Russia. The designers said in a statement today that folding D&G back into their signature line would give "even more strength and energy to our collections." It's expected that the scope of the collection will increase to include other categories.
Dolce & Gabbanna Rumored to Merge D&G with Signature Line: Sources say that the Italian designers are looking to put all of their brands under one umbrella, surprising retailers who say that D&G is doing better sales than the upscale line. {WWD, subscription required} Karl Lagerfeld is Furious at Galliano: The Chanel designer worries that John Galliano's actions are giving the rest of the fashion industry a bad rep. {Telegraph} Rachel Zoe Dishes on Dressing Anne Hathaway for the Oscars: The super stylist calls Hathaway one of her muses and addresses that rumor about charging the actress an "astronomical fee." {Entertainment Weekly}
MILAN--Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce always put on a rollicking show for their D&G range, and Fall 2011 was no different. This season, they took inspiration from the early Nineties. Madonna's "Vogue" (mixed with Duck Sauce's "Barbra Streisand") blared over the loudspeakers--even the usually stoic Vanessa Friedman (fashion editor at the Financial Times) tapped her foot and bobbed her head to the music.
Since our last recap of the spring ads, tons of new images have been released, including Miu Miu's full campaign starring none other than Querelle Jansen! For fashion nerds like myself, Querelle's image brought back memories of Marc Jacobs' fall '05 collection inspired by Violet from the Incredibles and his spring '05 collection for Vuitton that he said she inspired with her street style. Call me nostalgic, but I hope Querelle makes a major comeback in the 2010s. But enough reminiscing. In this recap of the ads we've got Prada, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Céline, Rag & Bone, Jil Sander and so much more. So get clicking!
We're all excited that Rachel Zoe finally confirmed that she and Rodge are expecting. Congrats! It undoubtedly will be the most stylish baby of all time! (Sorry, Suri.) We figure a child of Zoe will probably be swaddled in Chanel, so it's a good thing Karl is making kids clothes now, at least for the runway. Since Chanel hasn't come out with a full line of kids clothes yet, we've rounded up some of the most precious and most ridiculously expensive designer baby clothes out there. We're just assuming Zoe will have a girl, hence all the dress suggestions.
Sweater weather is here people, and as far as we're concerned, it's one of the best things about the temperature dropping. And since we're puffer-coat averse here at Fashionista, this cardi-coat trend is right up our alley. They're super cozy and thick enough to double as coats (before temps drop below freezing). The best versions are printed--Navajo, fair isle, and intarsia--perfect for adding a little interest over jeans and flat knee-boots. We're making it our new weekend staple. Take a look through some of our favorites.
Trying on sunglasses for spring is a pretty good antidote to a dreary, rainy fall day. Luxottica’s Spring 2011 eyewear presentation this morning fit the bill perfectly. With wares from Prada, Miu Miu, Ray-Ban, Persol, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Burberry, Tory Burch, DKNY, and Stella McCartney to play with, we were in a sunny wonderland. After checking out dozens of pairs, some very clear trends emerged. And trust us: chances are you’ll be happy this spring. Click through to see the styles you’re going to want:
Designers took the phrase "spring collection" literally this season, and headed for the garden. From D&G’s flower-lined runway, to Mulberry’s “secret garden” show, designers went beyond floral prints this season to incorporate every element of the garden party, and with good reason.
She may be years away from fitting into runway clothes and should probably have been in school this past week, but, hey, that never stopped Tavi. Willow Smith, who has yet to reach double digits, spent last week accompanying her mom to Milan's front rows. Willow is already proving herself as a tween fashion force to be reckoned with. Honestly, she has an impressive sense of style for someone so young. Or, do you think she uses a stylist? Click through for her ensembles.
MILAN--The runway at D&G, Dolce and Gabbana's younger and more affordable line, was lined with actual flowers--daffodils and roses to name a few--because Dolce and Gabbana's girls are going to a garden party for Spring/Summer 2011. But they're not just going to sip cocktails and look pretty in the garden, they're going to get down and dirty and do some gardening, too. Models were styled with kerchiefs and wore floral print bloomers with cropped smock tops, rompers (they're still around), and dresses with apron pockets, paired with wedged wellies. Then they'll break for a picnic, and disappear right into that red-checked blanket, wearing red gingham dresses, jumpers and separates. But don't worry, the D&G girls clean up well, of course, and for the actual, cocktail-sipping garden party, they'll don flowy floral floor-length dresses with ruffled skirts. In fact, D&G's liner notes state that the show "ends with a party al fresco where it is imperative to show up in long floral chiffon gowns." So there. Take a look.
