Update: Schiaparelli Label to Officially Relaunch Though a Designer Has Yet To Be Named
Nearly forty years after her death, Elsa Schiaparelli is once again the designer of the moment: She's the subject of this year's Costume Institute exhibit at the Met, and now, thanks to Italian businessman Diego Della Valle, her label is set to enjoy a revival later this year, WWD is reporting.
The Prada Effect: Why We're Seeing the 50s Everywhere
The upcoming Met exhibit entitled Impossible Conversations involves a sort of rally back and forth between the creations of former visionary Elsa Schiaparelli and current trendsetter Miuccia Prada. The pairing originally raised a few eyebrows. There are some glaring differences between these two Italian women - time being the most obvious one. Schiaparelli closed up shop in 1954, and though innovative and highly influential, she does not have much as much of a direct conversation with the industry or women today as she once did. Meanwhile, Prada is very much alive and thriving. The brand has tremendous cultural recognition--and is in conversation, so to speak, with the industry all the time. Prada's influence is impossible to ignore. So when Miuccia wanted 50s glam and tapped fellow tastemaker and frequent collaborator Steven Meisel to plunk models in a gas station for the spring campaign, we should have realized the ripple effect this would have on fashion imagery.

Fashion News Roundup: Abbey Lee Kershaw May Be in a Spielberg Film, There Are More Details About the Prada/Schiaparelli Met Exhibit, and Angelina Jolie Covers Vogue Turkey
The Other Missing Model: Though we all miss Karlie, many have been surprised this season at the lack of Abbey Lee Kershaw on the runways. Turns out she's having knee surgery tomorrow (ouch!). The model has been plagued with knee issues for years, and we certainly wish her a speedy recovery. But there's also a rumor she's working on the next Spielberg film - something her New York Agency Next Model Management did not confirm or deny. {Frockwriter} Ferragamo Partners with the Louvre: The Italian brand has announced that it will be the exclusive sponsor of the upcoming exhibit "Saint Anne, Leonardo da Vinci's Ultimate Masterpiece,” running from March 29 to June 25 at the Louvre. UPDATE, Prada Refutes Story: Miuccia Prada Slams Her Upcoming Met Exhibit
If you thought the Met Institute's upcoming exhibit honoring both Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada seemed like a random pairing, well, that's because it kind of is. And according to WWD, Miuccia Prada is not happy about it. “It’s too formal. They are focused on similarities, comparing feather with feather, ethnic with ethnic, but they are not taking into consideration that we are talking about two different eras, and that [Schiaparelli and I] are total opposite." she told WWD, of the exhibit. "I told them, but they don’t care.” Prada has a point:
