Fashion month: It's finally, truly over.
The lastest James Bond flick, Skyfall, hits US theatres today, and while much ado is made about who the hottest Bond is (that would be Sean Connery, in this writer's opinion, followed closely by Daniel Craig), the Bond girls are the ones who really steal the show. This year is the 50th anniversary of the Bond movie franchise, and we've gone way back to 1962 to analyze Bond girl fashion. Click through to check out the most iconic Bond girls and their style--from Honey Ryder (played by Ursula Andress) in the very first 007 movie to Skyfall's Sévérine (Bérénice Marlohe), who definitely deserves to be in the list of memorable Bond girls.
Eighties pop icons were the muses for Jean Paul Gaultier's show. How true was he to the orginals? See for yourself.
Heidi Klum and Seal Aren't The Kind Who Have Nasty Break-Ups: We've watched a lot of nasty celebrity divorces unfold (see: Demi & Ashton), but just a day after confirming his breakup with his supermodel wife, Heidi Klum, Seal is assuring us that his divorce will not be drama-filled (at least not publicly). The singer told Tavis Smiley: "We're just not those kind of people. What one has to do in this situation is to remain civil, to retain one's dignity, to be professional, and to understand that we are not the only people on this planet that are going through this." {ONTD} Get Ready for Zac Posen x Lord & Taylor: The young designer is teaming up with the retailer to curate a capsule collection of twelve dresses ranging from $149 to $199. We'll be needing every single outfit in our size, thank you very much. {My Damn Blog}
Kardashian Sisters to be Barbie-fied: The Kardashian family's way of combating the bad publicity following the end of Kim's 72-day marriage is to continue their overexposure, as if the public isn't already sick of them. The Kardashians struck up a deal with Mattel to create Barbie dolls which will not only look like them, but, as a source tells Us Weekly "reflect their measurements." Barbie with a booty? We'll have to see it to believe it! {UsMagazine} The Duchess of Cambridge Chooses Her Charities: As part of her royal duties, Duchess KMidd has finally chosen the four charities she will patronize: the National Portrait Gallery (so they'll be sure to paint her looking extra fierce), Action on Addiction, East Anglia's Children's Hospices, and The Art Room, which provides art classes for at risk teens. All noble causes! {WWD (Subscription required)} Apparently, People Are Buying Paris Hilton's Fragrances: The socialite told FHM she's made 1.3 billion in revenue off her fragrances since 2005. Yeah, we're just as confused as you are. {JustJared}
One of the people Lady Gaga just name checked as a seminal “author in the library of pop culture” hosted a book signing last night. No, it wasn’t Prince, Cindy Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, or Francis Bacon (Gaga's words, not ours). It was Maripol, stylist to '80s statement-makers Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, Cher, and Madonna. Steven Meisel may have shot that iconic Like A Virgin album cover, but Maripol's the one who slipped Madonna into the rubber bracelets and crucifix jewelry that sparked a trillion copycats. So, yah, we'd say Gaga gushing over Maripol's cultural legacy is pretty on point. While Maripol certainly had a heavy hand in fashion history, the woman's still very much relevant today. Last year, she designed neon t-shirts and rubber jewelry for Marc by Marc; last night, she continued her latest moment in the sun (or torrential downpour, as luck would have it) with a jam-packed signing of her Little Red Riding Hood.
PARIS--In general, I'm a pretty impatient person. Which means if I roll up to a party and there's a massive queue, I typically just walk away. But I really wanted to attend last night's Roberto Cavalli 40th anniversary celebration at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Probably because it's the first day of Paris Fashion Week and I still have the energy to do more than write. Also, Cavalli knows how to throw a proper party. I knew it would be good. At least the food would be good. So around 10pm, I left my hotel and headed over. As I walked up to the gate, I instantly knew that arriving an hour and a half after start time was a bad idea. Yet I was able to easily weasel my way to the velvet rope. They weren't allowing anyone in at that moment, but I assumed it would be soon enough.
