Four cities, one season: Fall 2013. Nemo kicked the collections off and every city to follow added its own dose of wintry chill. Somehow all that cold weather caused a discernible note of restraint to float through the collections. Don’t worry--the passion and excitement were still there, but designers actively pursued defining new ways we can really dress next fall. These looks felt grounded in the return of the “Lady," as fashion’s pendulum swung away from the risqué, toward the refreshingly refined (spike-studded shoulders be damned). Check out our top trends for fall in the slide show.
The fashion month marathon is officially over. We saw collections we loved, gawked at mega-watt celebrities, flirted with Olympians, hung out backstage with models--and watched everyone hated on Cathy Horyn. So, before you put up your (seriously sore) feet this weekend and indulge in some takeout and bad reality TV, relive all those moments and more as we breakdown of the 10 biggest stories to come out of fashion month. Enjoy!
J.Lo took a statement-making cue from Beyoncé and wore a hot red dress to an Obama fundraiser. But was she really trying to make a statement other than looking really hot? Probably not.
The little Yeezy who could? Despite not showing in Paris, Kanye West has "collaborated" with Guiseppe Zanotti on a new stiletto called the 'Cruel Summer,' after his new album. {She Finds} Attn, fashion worshippers! A Karl Lagerfeld mecca in the form of a concept boutique is opening this February in Paris, selling all of his many labels as well as other projects. Here's hoping there's a window for Choupette. {Fashion Indie} Lena Dunham went to an event yesterday and forgot her pants. Oops! {HuffPo} The winds of change continue to blow through Saint Laurent: Its new website goes live tomorrow. {WWD}
In what is surely the fulfillment of every designer's ultimate fashion week nightmare, Hakaan has had to cancel its Spring 2013 show because couriers somehow lost the entire collection, Vogue UK is reporting.
All the glamour of the Paris shows. All the comfort of your sweat pants.
Thanks to a grand endorsement from Carine Roifeld, Hakaan Yildirim was already a name to know when he received France's prestigious ANDAM award in 2010. “We’re in Harvey Nichols, Colette, Opening Ceremony–it’s nearly 26 stockists internationally!” he told Fashionista at the awards ceremony in Paris last October. Now it's time for another up-and-comer to take advantage of the prize, i.e. €220,000, a mentorship with former Chloe chief exec Ralph Toledano, and the chance to show at Paris Fashion Week. This year's nominees include Jeremy Laing, Adam Kimmel, Anthony Vaccarello, Commuun, Matthew Harding, and Yiqing Yin. The judges? Pierre Berge, Hillary Alexander, Emmanuelle Alt, Nicole Phelps, Sarah Lerfel from Colette, and Humberto Leon from Opening Ceremony, to name a few.
Referencing shades of Givenchy and vintage Tom Ford, the Turkish designer Hakaan Yildirim turned out a collection of modernized Studio 54 fare that would be a hit with former Beatrice Inn attendees and Le Baron enthusiasts alike. The relatively new designer is best known for his love of come-hither structured sexiness and his elite fashion friends--namely Carine Roitfeld (she put him on the map three seasons back) and his creative director Mert Alas (of the photog duo Mert & Marcus). Although Carine was not in attendance last night, there were plenty of A-list catwalkers to make up for her absence. Mariacarla Boscono opened the show--a progression of smoldering pieces in black, white, gray, red, and nude. Standout looks included silk tuxedo jackets (a key item for fall), precisely tailored pants, and a gown worn by Daphne Groeneveld that looked like the modern-day interpretation Madame X's gown in John Singer Sargent’s famous portrait (but with more side boob).
Predicting what the nominees will wear to the Oscars is trickier than picking the winners. There are probably over 100 amazing Oscar-worthy dresses that walk the runway each season, but the reality is that most celebs would rather stick with a safe choice than a fashion forward one. This year, however, the nominees have a better fashion history than most. Nicole Kidman has turned heads in Galliano and Balenciaga, Michelle Williams favors the up-and-coming crowd, and Hailee Steinfeld is not afraid to take a daring risk, be it in Prada or Prabal. Click through to see what I hope the nominees are wearing this Sunday.

PARIS--Hakaan Yildirim is not who one would call an ingenue. Indeed, Yildirim, whose "debut" at London Fashion Week last season made a decidedly large splash, has been a working designer in Turkey for more than a decade. Within a year, Yildirim has gone from a local Turkish talent to the fashion world's next big thing, and his collection, shown Wednesday in Paris, further sealed his fate. Last night, Yildirim officially accepted the spoils of his latest achievement: the ANDAM fashion award.
