Nicholas Kirkwood has had an intense couple of weeks. The British shoe designer, who founded his line 2004, announced eight days ago that he would be entering into a partnership with LVMH. The luxury conglomerate now owns a majority stake in the company. That’s a big change, but at his Spring 2014 presentation on Thursday, Kirkwood seemed calm as ever.
Is Nicholas Kirkwood the next Christian Louboutin? He could be, with LVMH's help.
Now that we all know what not to wear after a breakup (yoga clothes for a week, too tight tube tops, bangs) I wanted to explore what to wear in the days after a split. See, the next time I have a big breakup I want to be classy about it. I don’t want to send nasty drunken text messages and be the girl who flashes everyone in a bar. I want to craft a style that will allow me to look like a lady who is handling my breakup with grace and dignity. On the inside I may be a basket case, but on the outside I want to exude a beautiful calm. I am not good at exuding a beautiful calm even during the best of times, so I asked my friend, the stylist and fashion guru and host of the show What Not to Wear, Stacy London, how to dress for success in the days after getting dumped.

Generating buzz around a new label can be a tough thing, no matter how talented the designer. But every once in a while a collection comes around that resonates with editors and shoppers alike without really even trying. I love the energy of Sophia Webster's collection so much that I recently bought a pair of her spring heels. It helps that—while still delivering on aesthetic, fit and quality—the Nicholas Kirkwood alumn's prices are about half what most designer shoes cost these days. Webster told me her story at the launch of the line's resort 2014 collection earlier this week.
Nicholas Kirkwood is on a roll. This past January, he became the first accessories designer to pick up the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, beating out a slew of buzzy ready-to-wear designers like Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilotto. And just today, the New York Post is crowning him the "new Manolo." But he never lets it go to his head. We caught up with Kirkwood during Paris fashion week to ask him about his big win, the possibility of handbags in the pipeline, and being a miserable fashion intern (he's just like us!).

Kirkwood will receive £200,000 as well as access to key senior level mentors across the UK fashion industry.
