Thanksgiving is a marathon day of doing nothing much more than cooking, eating, drinking, and gabbing. So it's quite the workout for your face, and thus, your makeup. We talked to some makeup experts from MAC, NARS, and Maybelline for tips to make your makeup last (which will be helpful all through this marathon holiday season), as well as product recommendations for the most tenaciously long-wearing makeup we could find for your face, eyes, and lips. Read on to see how you can get through this Thanksgiving with nary a touch-up needed.
Here's everything you need to be in the know about Asian beauty, even if you don't speak Japanese.
Jennifer Connelly is a Shiseido Spokeswoman Again, 30 Years Later: The Labrynth co-star is reprising her role as the global face of the Japanese makeup and skincare line - she also appeared in their "Perky Jeans" ad campaign in the '80s. Jen's new campaign for Shiseido will be for its Future Solution LX premium skin care line - which sadly doesn't quite have the same awesome ring to it as "Perky Jeans." {Styleite} LVMH and Dior In Pretty Good Shape: As the global economy grows, so have people's spending habits: LVMH sales have gained 20.4% in the fourth quarter and Dior's revenues have advanced 22%. Luxury brands seem to be increasing in profit and revenue in pretty much every major market sector save for Japan, where last year's devastating natural disasters affected far more than the spending habits of the wealthy. {WWD subscription required} Lisa Perry's Spring Collection is 'Mad About Mod': The designer hosted an intimate luncheon yesterday to celebrate her new '60s-inspired collection, which features mod accents and groovy pop-art inspired prints. It's available at Barneys just in time for spring weather and, of course, the return of Mad Men. {Barneys}
This past January Ning Chao made the jump from magazines to the web, where she is the beauty director at Beautylish. (Welcome to the jungle, Ning!) In the ten years prior to that she's covered beauty for Marie Claire, InStyle, Elle, Vogue, and Glamour. Now she’s putting her expertise to work at Beautylish, a slick site devoted to all things beauty: there are product reviews, makeup tutorials, message boards, and a stellar news section (they scored an exclusive interview with Blake Lively’s hair colorist---it took ten hours to make her a redhead.) Ning shared her current favorite beauty obsessions:
Kate Middleton Shops at Banana Republic: Continuing her tour of high street stores to (ostensibly) shop for her honeymoon, Kate was spotted in Banana Republic buying summer clothes yesterday. Showing amazing discretion, Banana refused to reveal which pieces the future princess purchased. {TelegraphUK} Mom Lets Her Little Boy Try a Leg Wax: After watching his mom and her friends wax their eyebrows, the boy insisted that he wanted to try it. His mom obliged by putting a tiny bit on his leg fluff. The result is eardrum-shattering. (Hey, it’s never to early to learn manscaping.) {HuffPo} Dr. Martens Launched a Clothing Line: Riding the current tide of 90s nostalgia, Doc Martens just launched its clothing line, which contains lots of checked dresses. {The Independent}
Johnny Depp Takes Home an Award for His Dedication to Headwear: Johnny Depp’s been awarded the “Hat Person Of The Year” award by the Headwear Association. We nominate Anna Dello Russo for next year’s award, in the category of “Fruit Millinery.” {VogueUK} Matthew Williamson Thinks Kate Middleton Isn’t a Fashion Bunny: Matthew Williamson just launched his bridal line, but we suspect he won’t be dressing Kate Middleton. “Kate isn’t a fashion bunny,” [Williamson said.] “I don’t know why everyone in fashion is waiting to see what she wears. I’m, like, thinking: get over it.” {Telegraph UK} Karl Lagerfeld Shoots Rachel Bilson in a Tiara For an Ice Cream Commercial: Rachel Bilson was snapped in Paris on the set of a Magnum ice cream commercial which Karl Lagerfeld is directing. She was wearing a bathrobe and a tiara. We are anxiously awaiting the final product. (And suddenly want an ice cream bar.) {PopSugar}
I opened my big glossy flyer from Bloomie’s yesterday and almost started hyperventilating from sheer over-stimulation. From October 14 through the 24th they are hosting a massive beauty event and we’re all invited. First of all, if you love free samples and tote bags, it is a goody bag paradise. Or rather, a “gift with purchase” paradise. Yeah, you have to buy. But isn’t it worth spending $100 to get a cheap pouch full of tiny samples? (Apparently I think so, because I have ten years' worth of these cluttering up my bathroom vanity.) Here are some of the best: Space NK: It’s kind of major that Space NK is selling in Bloomindgale’s now. For years their hard-to-find brands were only available in the UK, until a flagship opened here in NYC. Let’s hope this Bloomie’s collaboration leads to more free-standing Space NK stores. But I digress. For spending $95, you’ll get a black cosmetics bag filled with off-the-beaten path samples from the likes of Wei Bauty, Eve Lom, and Lipstick Queen.
We were a little surprised to see that high-end Japanese brand Shiseido is making a play for mineral makeup guru Bare Escentuals. It's going to buy th
