Descending into the underbelly of Lincoln Center’s parking garages for the Skaist-Taylor presentation felt uncharacteristic of the California lifestyle that former Juicy Couture designers Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor are well-loved for. This was clearly a new leaf, one created in the eighteen months since the duo officially departed from their inaugural brand that’s now owned and operated by Liz Claiborne. The designers are two peas in a pod—both decked out in shorn chiffon skirts, some sort of riff on a t-shirt, giant furs, and pin-straight intentionally-streaked hair. “It’s high and low and very layered, it’s everything we like,” the duo explained of their new collection which uncannily resembled their personal wardrobe styling, right down to the lip gloss worn by the models. There were long tiered skirts, oversized mink pieces, purposeful day dresses and of course, loungewear. “We have something called California cashmere and we’re obsessed with sweatpants and California luxury,” they explained.
