Nearly a year and a half after exiting Ermenegildo Zegna, the designer is reportedly testing the waters for his next project.

The Italian house's head of design and former creative director of Yves Saint Laurent exits amid rumors he's headed to Lanvin.
Yesterday afternoon, we finally made our way to Agnona's pop-up--and soon to be permanent home--on Milan's chic Via Sant'Andrea (next door to Prada) to see Stefano Pilati's eagerly-anticipated, already for sale, womenswear debut for Agnona. As reported, the collection, titled Collection 0, became available to purchase in Milan on Wednesday, the same day it was first unveiled to press. And overall, Pilati's vision for the brand is a strong statement against the fashion cycle, and the fact that, for the past three weeks, we've been looking at clothes that won't hit stores for another six months.
Anticipation is high for Stefano Pilati's womenswear debut for Agnona, and the designer plans to unveil it in a pretty unconventional way.

Former Yves Saint Laurent creative director (from when it was called Yves Saint Laurent) Stefano Pilati debuted his first collection for his new employer, Ermenegildo Zegna at Men's Fashion Week in Milan Saturday and it's been pretty unanimously deemed a strong first outing.

Back in September, we reported that Stefano Pilati would be joining Ermenegildo Zegna in two capacities: As head of design of its menswear line and as creative director of the brand's women's line, Agnona, which is in dire need of a revival. As creative director of Agnona, Pilati certainly has his work cut out for him. The women's line has fallen pretty far off the fashion industry's radar. So how exactly will the ex-YSL designer, who started at the Italian house January 1, bring Agnona back to life?
In 2012, the fashion universe sort of reset itself. Raf Simons got what he deserved—Dior—while Alexander Wang got what very few could have predicted: Balenciaga. Now, the question is: What sort of seismic shifts will happen in 2013? From brand expansion, to designer debuts, here are the 10 labels you'll want to keep an eye on this year. Click through to see which brands we think will make a splash in 2013 and why.
From Raf Simons' appointment at Dior, to Nicolas Ghesquiere's departure from Balenciaga, and the arrival of several new 'It' girls (or 'It' felines, anyway), 2012 brought a lot of big changes in the fashion industry. And, of course, we were on hand to report every single one of them.
We thought the holiday season was the perfect time to spread a little love throughout the fashion industry--but since we don't see Hedi Slimane sending Cathy Horyn a Christmas card anytime soon, we decided to use our imaginations.
In September, it was announced that, following his departure from YSL, Stefano Pilati would join Ermenegildo Zegna as head of design and as creative director of Zegna’s womenswear counterpart, Agnona. We haven't seen or heard anything since, until now. Agnona feted the opening of a new store in Miami yesterday and while we're pretty sure Pilati wasn't there, one of his designs apparently was.
Our list is a mix of rumored candidates, speculations and suggestions from other editors and designers, and some people we just think might be interesting.

Looks like we'll have to wait even longer to see Hedi Slimane for Yves Saint Laurent in action: It's just been announced that the newly appointed Creative Director won't be hosting a runway presentation for his first collection at the iconic French house. While some designers have chosen to escalate the prominence and visibility of their mid-season resort collections with an over-the-top show (cough, Chanel), WWD reports that Slimane has chosen the more low-key route of presenting his YSL women's cruise and spring menswear to buyers only in late June or early July.
In his first interview since showing his final collection for Yves Saint Laurent just four weeks ago, Stefano Pilati was the guest of honor at last night's Fashion Talks at the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF). He sat down with Pamela Golbin, Chief Curator of the Louvre's Musée de la Mode et du Textile to chat about his career thus far and what might be next. While the two skirted around the issue of what exactly led to Pilati's somewhat sudden departure from YSL, and never mentioned his successor, Hedi Slimane, one got the impression that his time there was complicated and so is he, as a person.

Following reports this weekend that Stefano Pilati would show his last collection for YSL this week, to be replaced by Hedi Slimane, comes confirmation from the house that Pilati is indeed, out. YSL released the following statement today: Yves Saint Laurent today announces the departure of Creative Director Stefano Pilati, who since 2004 has stood at the creative helm of the maison and has been instrumental in the rebuilding and repositioning of an iconic French luxury brand. Under Stefano’s guiding vision and artistic direction, the house has become a contemporary reference in high fashion. Stefano will show his final collection for Fall/Winter 2012-2013 womenswear on March 5, 2012 in Paris. In the coming weeks, the maison will announce a new Creative Director.
Another day, another report of a massive shakeup at a major fashion house. Hot on the heels of news that Raf Simons would leave Jil Sander (he showed his last collection for the label today in Milan)--and that JIl Sander would return to her eponymous label--come reports that Hedi Slimane will return to YSL, replacing Stefano Pilati as creative director. A source told the AFP "[Silmane] will become the new creative director at YSL," and that "the contract has been signed by both parties." According to the AFP, the appointment will be formalized during Paris Fashion Week, which starts Tuesday, February 28. WWD is also citing a "Paris source," as saying that Slimane "is poised to take over the design helm at YSL." PPR, the parent group of YSL, would not comment to WWD but the French Twittersphere seems to indicate that a confirmation from PPR is forthcoming.
It sounds like Galliano's indiscretions and subsequent firing has, understandably, put fear into the hearts of other designers who have enjoyed a similarly rebellious lifestyle--at least those who work for huge coporations. One example is YSL's talented, but at times rebellious and hard-partying creative director Stefano Pilati. In a fantastic interview with Vice, he discusses how people in his position can't really get away with bad behavior the way they used to: Today, excess has to be kept within the private sphere. But you know about my past and that I used to get high. When I used to really use, at Prada, a guy found out, and he told me, “Well, David Bowie made his best records when he was using.” That was maybe the last time I felt that there was a slight acceptance of what I was doing. Today, that kind of stuff is just impossible. Without getting right into the dirt of it, John [Galliano] really kind of put an end to that sort of option. Of the Galliano situation he says:
