The Bottom Line: This concentration in Fashion Merchandising and Design prepares students for roles in product development, retailing, visual merchandising or marketing while requiring an internship. The program has strong relationships with NC-based members of the fashion community such as Belk, Kontoor Brands and Cotton Incorporated, who have representation on its departmental advisory board, donate materials and supplies, participate in industry panels and regularly hire interns and graduates. Educational partnerships with Visual Retailing and Gerber Technology provide opportunities for students to build visual merchandising and product development skills using industry-level software. And, the school provides study abroad opportunities. All graduates of the Fashion Merchandising and Design program also earn a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. The school also has a student organization called Fashion X-Cetera providing opportunities outside of the classroom.
