Annual Tuition: Undergraduate: $47,986

Misc: Part of a larger design school, so you can combine arts studies.

Famous Alumni: Jeremy Scott, Betsey Johnson, Laura Kim, Adam Selman, Samantha Pleet, Seokwon Andy Kim and Wonjeong Debbie Yoon (Andy + Debb), Nina Zilka and David J. Krause (Alder New York).

What the Students Say:

"Pratt is an art school, and there are many opportunities to work in other mediums besides fashion. The department takes an artistic approach to fashion, and can sometimes disapprove of more conventional or mass market designs."

"Heavy focus on design/construction as opposed to the business side of fashion. More conceptual approach to design as opposed to other NYC fashion schools, lots of focus on sustainability and textiles. Strong in draping, pattern making, sewing skills as well as illustration. Not strong in "niche" aspects of the fashion industry such as menswear, costume, lingerie, etc."

"Make sure to have a well put together portfolio."

The Bottom Line: With a post-graduate employment rate of 89 percent, Pratt is a great choice if you want to study fashion but would like to study other applied arts as well. And it's one of the few design programs which offers electives in fashion editorial/magazine publishing. There is also a focus on sustainable design, which is a facet of the business that students must now understand in order to produce clothes properly and efficiently.
