As far back as Kyra Buenviaje can remember, she’s always wanted to be a fashion designer. Even in kindergarten, when all the children were asked what they wanted to be when they grew up, Buenviaje was emphatic in her response, she wanted to be a fashion designer.
With no real experience, Buenviaje enrolled in college in the Philippines and was chosen to represent her school for a young designer showcase in Metro Magazine. After her first semester Junior year, Buenviaje went on to study a semester at RMIT in Australia and then finally enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Apparel.
Buenviaje’s Supima collection, The Abyss, was prompted by her feeling of isolation during the pandemic. Buenviaje focuses on textures through fabric manipulation in an effort to bring the natural and uncharted outdoors into her eveningwear collection.
