What the Students Say:

"It doesn’t have as many of the resources as fashion-focused schools, but the diversity of student interests at WashU provides a creatively stimulating environment. Fashion design students have the opportunity to push themselves academically at a rigorous school, while also continuing their pursuit of art and fashion design. The program is small and hands on, so the faculty and students are close, and there are many opportunities available to the fashion students. Students start with an art foundation year and culminate with a capsule collection shown at a fashion show."

"You get a good fashion education, but you also get a good overall education, so there is something that puts you ahead of other people in some regard."

The Bottom Line: This is another strong option for those who want to pursue their interest in fashion design within an art school, within a classic university environment. Students can (and in fact, must) round out their education with liberal arts subjects outside of design while learning the fashion fundamentals. There's also a study abroad program in Florence.
