Located on a quiet street opposite a beautiful park in the Marais, the store offers perfect combinations of French chic.
Designer Dion Lee, 27, a Sydney native who almost won the Woolmark Prize in 2013 (Antwerp’s Christian Wijnants got it in the end) and counts Net-a-Porter as his most important stockist, is already on the way to becoming a household name.
Rihanna has new hair AGAIN. And we kind of think it's her real hair for once. {Instagram} Why was Michelle Obama snubbed from Vanity Fair's 2013 International Best Dressed list? Here are a few (no more justifiable!) reasons. {The Daily Beast} Chloe Grace Moretz looks every part the Hollywood screen siren in a spread shot by Patrick Demarchelier for Glamour's September issue. {The Front Row View} Lululemon is in hot water once again, with plus-size customers feeling less-than-catered-to by the upscale yoga wear chain. {HuffPo}
Don't worry though--Ralph Lauren isn't skipping out on New York Fashion Week.
Last weekend, revelers all over the world gathered for parades and partying on the street in celebration of Pride Week. With the recent DOMA repeal behind us here in the States, the festivities were bright (duh) and the outfits were brighter. From Istanbul to San Francisco to Panama City, thousands of bodies marched and danced wrapped in shiny lamé, covered in feathers, and adorned with face paint. We gathered some of the wackiest looks from the festivities, including humongous Golden Girls heads with 'fro picks, a Lady Gaga-esque rotary phone headpiece, and some sort of clown crying tears of string (or are they really long eyelashes?). Let's just say that if your pride is proportional to your costume, these folks might be the proudest of them all.
Name: Stephanie LaCava Occupation: Writer What was the last good movie you saw? Moonrise Kingdom! If you were a Disney character, which would you be? Um, Tinkerbell for sure -- everyone calls me that.
Azzedine Alaïa has always tried to remain independent from the fashion establishment. For the most part, he shows when he wants, if at all, doesn't advertise, doesn't have a website or a Twitter, and isn't seen on celebrities or in the press as frequently as some other labels. Still, he's one of the most respected designers in the biz and people continue flocking to Barneys and the like to buy his clothes. Speaking of buying, he also hasn't had a store since 1992. However, that's reportedly about to change!
Band of Outsiders, a brand beloved by cool boys and girls alike, just upped its awesomeness by staging the "Longest Show Ever" to showcase the 2013 sp
While everyone is hemming and hawing over who is to take the reigns at Dior, one man has been quietly and steadfastly doing his job, stepping into that hallowed role, without much fanfare. Bill Gaytten, who worked behind-the-scenes with John Galliano for 21 years, has taken the reigns at Dior and at John Galliano, and will have the distinction this season of being the only designer to take a bow at both shows, WWD reports (subscription required). Gaytten is creative director at Galliano and his title is head of studio at Dior, however without a creative director yet installed, there's no doubt that Gaytten is head designer in everything but name at the famed couture house. So what can we expect this season at Dior from a man, which we know so little about?
Last month, while I was spending time in Paris, I noticed something special happening: Everything was going on sale. Every store I walked past had a sign in the window announcing exceptional soldes. But it was more than a pleasant coincidence; in case you didn't know, France's government regulates sales, allowing two six-week long markdowns a year, one beginning in June and the other in January. This means that sales in Paris are major. By the end of the six week period, prices could be slashed by up to 80%, a discount that you rarely see in New York. While shopping I got two dresses at fractions of their original costs, a delight--especially considering the favorable exchange rate.
PARIS--This morning the Palais Royal gardens, where Marie Antoinette once frolicked around eating macaroons, were filled with journalists, buyers and giant bubble wrap monsters. This indeed is a suitable scenery for a show by over-the-top, theatrical French label On Aura Tout Vu (French for “You think you’ve seen it all”). Launched in 1998, the Paris-based designer couple likes to use childhood references ranging from Tim Burton movies, to Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are, or Luc Besson’s Chanel 5 Little Red Riding Hood advert. Their last show was a direct reference to Alice in Wonderland, and offered entire dresses made out cards, incorporating various props into the designs. This time, their collection, entitled "Fishing for Compliments," created an underwater universe, oscillating between Life Aquatic and a kitschy "Little Mermaid On Ice": sequins, geometry and much irony punctuated the aqua-tinted show.
