The room was already buzzing when we arrived at the NAHM presentation. Piano music swelled in the background as we navigated past press, bloggers, and assorted fashion folk to get a good look at the fall collection. You could hear people gushing in conversation: “It's gorgeous,” “so wearable,” “I need those shoes exactly right now.” It’s hard to believe that it was only a year ago that Alexandra Hilfiger (yes, that Hilfiger) and Nary Manivong showed their debut collection, consisting mostly of shirtdresses highlighted with feminine detailing. But oh, how the brand has grown in that time.
1. Sometimes, Tumblr tumbles. Despite the awesome access the Tumblrs received, including a private party at Donna Karan, breakfast with Nina Garcia, and more, the week's events were reportedly badly organized. 2. Strippers are the new new thing. From go go girls at Rag & Bone's after party to casino hostesses at Karen Walker, topless dancers haven't been this big since Striptease. 3. If you are under 21, you can still DJ an over-21 party. Thanks for the lesson in NY State law, Tavi.
My old boss introduced me to Jill Golden's Flutter jewlery collection years ago--before it had even officially launched! Unsurprisingly, I've been a fan of Golden's ever since. Her delicate necklaces, earrings, and cuffs are pretty enough to please the J.Crew fanatic in all of us, yet strong enough to pair with a piece from Eddie Borgo or Pamela Love. Flutter's been around for nearly three years, and Golden felt like now was the time to spruce up her website, FlutterNYC.com. Along with an expanded e-commerce section, which features everything from her classic Palermo necklace to a one-off brooch made with vintage stones (shown), the jeweler also asked several fashion editors, stylists, and designers to take part in the New Years edition of The Flutter Questionaire. Participants included Ally Hilfiger, Rebecca Minkoff, Teen Vogue's lovely Eva Chen, and yes, yours truly.
Investigating The Hipster: High-brow literary journal n+1's investigation of the rise and fall of the Hipster started with a panel at The New School and has culminated in a text entitled “What Was the Hipster?: A Sociological Investigation.” You can purchase it here for $10. {The Moment} Wedding Bandz: Katy Perry and Russell Brand are married now. Katy wore Elie Saab and the wedding gift bags included custom "Katy" and "Russell" Silly Bandz. {Styleite} A Gap in Inventory: Leave it to Racked to track down the highly anticipated Pierre Hardy for Gap wedges. Unfortunately, the results of their NYC findings were pretty dismal. Apparently, Fifth Avenue and 54th Street only received five pairs (all of which are probably gone by now). Times Square had "a few sizes" and 34th street had nothing. All stores are hopefully awaiting more shipments. {Racked NY}
It's no secret we have a little crush on Ally Hilfiger. (1. Her name is Alexandria, which is like super British and intellectual. 2. Her smile is
