How to Wear Fashion's Newest Braid Obsession
Cornrows are having a moment on the small screen--ahem, Orange is the New Black--and on a high fashion platform, seen in multiple Vogue Paris editorials and at the fashion-heavy Met Gala. With all this buzzing around the tiny braids, we decided it was time to try the look out for ourselves.
Will Someone Please Give Amanda Murphy Something New To Wear?
This past March, Amanda Murphy (radiology tech, part-time top model) opened and closed Prada's fall/winter 2013 show as an exclusive. Since then she has been garnering a steady buzz which erupted these past few weeks with 1) the cover of Italian Vogue, 2) a Prada campaign, and 3) an editorial in American Vogue. While these achievements are seriously impressive for a relative newcomer, it gave us a feeling of deja vu. Not only was Amanda donning Prada on each occasion, it was the same look every time.
Christy Turlington Follows Up Calvin Klein Campaign with Jason Wu, Prada
Christy Turlington's modeling comeback--which is beginning to feel like a fall campaign takeover--is in full swing. Last month, we reported Turlington would be returning as the face of Calvin Klein Underwear, 25 years after her first campaign with the brand. And today brings news of two other major campaigns starring the 44-year-old '90s-era supermodel: Jason Wu and Prada.
Why Model Amanda Murphy Isn't Giving Up Her Day Job as a Radiology Tech
Twenty-six-year-old model Amanda Murphy, who walked as a Prada exclusive this season and stars in the brand's campaign to boot, isn't fazed by her recent ascent to industry fame. “Everything happens for a reason, so it's just my turn,” she explains. Besides, Murphy is an accomplished “slashie”--not a model-slash-actress or a model-slash-musician, but a model-slash-radiology-technician. “I had work here [in Manhattan] on Friday, and Friday night, I flew home to work at the clinic on Saturday, and then Saturday after the clinic, I had to run to the airport to work here Sunday,” she says. “That’s the first and only time I’ve had a conflict. You have to spend money to make money and I’m at a growing point, so I’m okay with doing it.” Murphy also discussed playing with Sasha Pivovarova’s baby backstage, the kindness of Alber Elbaz, and horseback riding.
