Well this is just terrible. According to Amy Winehouse's father Mitch, as told to The Sun, two dresses belonging to the late singer--due to be auctioned for her namesake charity later this year in New York--have been stolen from her house in Camden, North London, where she died last July.
As you may recall, Jean Paul Gaultier's spring/summer 2012 haute couture collection was a highly produced homage to the late Amy Winehouse. There was a barbershop quartet singing her music while models traipsed down the aisle with beehive 'dos, heavy eyeliner, cigarettes, and form-fitting clothes that recalled the British talent, who had passed away only six months prior. It was a little uncomfortable, especially when Winehouse's father, who was understandably still grieving, spoke out against the show, saying it was "in bad taste" and "an insult" and "To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on.” Gaultier hasn't said much about it publicly until now and it doesn't sound like he has any regrets.

With beehived hair, winged eyeliner, and a barbershop quartet singing her tunes, Jean Paul Gaultier's Haute Couture show was an obvious homage to the late Amy Winehouse. Only not everyone thought it was such an honor: The songstress' dad, Mitch Winehouse, has spoken out against the show saying it was "in bad taste," the Associated Press is reporting. "We're still grieving for her loss, and we've had a difficult week with the six month anniversary of Amy's death," Winehouse told UK paper The Sun (as quoted in the AP). "To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on."
We look forward to the couture collections for so many reasons--the pure fantasy of it all, the exquisite details, and of course, the often equally as fantastical beauty looks. PARIS--Jean-Paul Gaultier’s couture shows are always incredibly fun. Not only is the production grandiose, but the crème de la crème of Paris is always there, too--Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Paul Goude, you name it. This time, the designer, who has always celebrated pop culture, decided to pay homage to the late Amy Winehouse, whose bold personality and rock and roll Barbie figure became an emblem of London.

After Amy Winehouse's tragic passing, we wondered about the fate of her collection with Fred Perry. She told Harper's Bazaar back in October that she and Perry had designed through fall 2012 but when we asked Perry's PR for comment they would only say that the collection was “on hold until we speak with Amy’s family and management” and would not comment further. Perry has since spoken with Winehouse's family and the label has announced plans to release the fall 2012 Amy Winhouse for Fred Perry collection and wholesale the spring 2012 collection, WWD is reporting. “Amy was passionate and dedicated to the collaboration, and her signature style is clearly stamped across each piece,” Fred Perry said in a statement. Amy's royalties and fees from the collections will be donated to the soon-to-be-created Amy Winehouse foundation and Fred Perry has said he will make a "seasonal donation" to the Foundation.”
In addition to an unfinished album, Amy Winehouse also leaves behind the successful collection she designed for Fred Perry. Her collaboration with the British clothing brand began last year with a fall 2010 collection. Amy's signature retro style is what inspired Fred Perry to approach her. Richard Martin, Fred Perry’s marketing director told WWD last March, “Amy has a unique sense of style that reflects the brand’s own historical reference points.” It sounded like Amy was more involved with the design process than many celebrity designers. Martin also noted, “Amy gave crucial input on proportion, color and fit. The range clearly has Amy’s handwriting.” Her spring 2011 collection launched in March and is currently no longer available on the Fred Perry website, but there are currently still two styles available on ASOS and a few things on eBay. While there hasn't been any mention of another Fred Perry collection in the press as of late, there is a decent chance that we could be seeing another one, if not several. This past October, Amy told Harper's Bazaar, "We've pretty much done like up to autumn/winter 2012, and I'm like, 'Have we?' Yeah!"
Amy Winehouse will be remembered not only for her amazing contributions to music, but also for her signature style. From Vogue Paris to Chanel runways, Amy's bouffant and winged eyeliner have made her an inspiration to many designers, editors, and stylists. Even up-and-coming rapper Kreayshawn's draws from Winehouse's repertoire. Take a look at all the interpretations of Winehouse's fashion. She will be greatly missed.
Singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her London flat, the Daily Mail reports. She was 27. In the short period in which she made headlines, Winehouse became a style inspiration for plenty of fashion folk, most notably Karl Lagerfeld. Our condolences to her family.
Amy Winehouse has seemingly disappeared from the public eye for the last year or so. Now, suddenly, she’s creeping back into the pop culture landscape again. In the last week:
The Pickle Princess of Poughkeepsie: It goes without saying that the streets are going to be full of Snookis this Halloween, but why not one-up all the others and actually replicate Snooki's Halloween costume? WWD weirdly snagged a sketch of Snooki's custom-made outfit, which involves a very short green bustier dress with pickle-shaped sequins and a pickle scepter. We can't really think of a more appropriate costume for Polizzi. {WWD} ADR Halloween: Anna Dello Russo's outfits are of the utmost extravagance 365 days/year, so can you even imagine what her Halloween outfits must be like? She shares her top style references for this weekend's holiday. They include Lady Gaga, Jeff Koons, Givenchy couture and Fish costumes at the Chelsea Arts Ball in 1927. She explains, "This is a Schiaparelli mood: women as fish. It’s anthropomorphic, part of the culture of fashion." Ah, of course. {NOWNESS}
