Anna Wintour has a history of popping up during New York Fashion Week with Vogue's next cover girl. And this past week the Vogue Editor in Chief certainly kept us guessing by holding court with both unlikely, and all-too likely cover subjects. See who Anna was spotted with this week, and why we think each one could be the next cover.
Since Scott Sternberg showed his Men’s Spring 2012 collection at Pitti Imagine in June, last night’s Band of Outdsiders show was all about the girls, which was fine with us. Even the theatrics had a more feminine feel--the show took place outdoors on a piece of west 24th street nestled under the Highline. The only real decoration was foliage. It gave the show a secret garden vibe and the music was soft and slow. For the finale, confetti--which was actually colorful candy wrappers and quippy fortune cookie papers--fell from above as the girls retreated. It all fit in with the collection's inspiration, Picnic at Hanging Rock--a 1970's cult film that takes place in the early 1900s. With a designer like Sternberg, though, it doesn't necessarily matter what the inspiration is--the clothes are always going to be perfect.
Will we be seeing Glee stars on the cover of Vogue soon? According to the Page Six, the Glee kids will act as spokespersons for Fashion's Night Out on September 8, appearing at stores across the country. Anna Wintour's daughter, Bee Shaffer, is an Associate Managing Producer in LA for Ryan Murphy's production company (which produces Glee) and supposedly brokered the deal. A rep for Fashion's Night Out didn't necessarily shoot down the rumor, but instead gave the Post this statement: "We don't comment on rumors."
Not Following In Her Mom's Footsteps: Bee Shaffer, Anna Wintour's 23-year-old daughter, is headed to LA to work for Glee creator Ryan Murphy's production company. {Gatecrasher} Kim Kardashian Keeps Getting Richer: Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz has invested $40 million in Kim Kardashian's shoe and accessory site ShoeDazzle.com. Ever come across an old photo of your mom--you know, a photo from before you even existed--and thought, "Damn, my mom looks good" and then "OMG I want that whole outfit"? Piper Weiss did, so she started a blog called My Mom the Style Icon where she posts photos of stylish moms that date from the 1920s through the 1980s, tells the stories of the moms in the photos, and offers up hilarious commentary on their outfits. That blog is now a book, and last night Coach threw a party to celebrate its release--just in time for mother's day. (Seriously, buy it now for your mom). True to her mom-style obsession, Weiss, who by day is an editor at Yahoo! Shine (you should read her stuff there because it's hilarious), wore a vintage Pierre Cardin dress that was her mom's in the 70s that she gave what she calls a "a shoulder pad-ectomy" and had shortened. Mama Weiss, the inspiration for the book, was there too, looking stylish as ever. There are exceptions to every rule, but it seems style is more often than not passed down from mothers to child. So we brainstormed with Weiss to come up with the ten of the most fashionable mother and daughter pairs (and one mother-son pair), and she offered her two cents on each stylish duo. What other stylish mother daughter pairs did we leave off?
Editors, designers, celebrities and models turned it out on the red carpet at last night's Fashion Oscars, aka the Met Ball. Unlike the real Oscars, this is a red carpet where people who really know and care about fashion take risks. As last night's gala celebrated "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty," the McQueen retrospective opening at the Met's Costume Institute this week, many attendees honored the late designer by wearing his incredible creations (some even got ready in them in the windows of Barneys). But of course, there was also Chanel, Balenciaga, Lanvin, Gucci, Givenchy, Valentino, etc., Click through to see who made our picks for the best dressed of the night.
