Last Night's Party: G&Ts and Aussie Tees at Blake Scotland
For all those mourning the recent shuttering of their favorite Lower East Side boutiques (Annie Havlicek, In God We Trust, we’re looking at you), rest assured that the area’s still yielding exciting new “shopportunities.” Last night, we celebrated the opening of Blake Scotland’s eponymous, intimate Clinton Street shop with cucumber gin and tonics and some great company. “I worked in fashion PR for two years in London, “ Scotland told us of her fashion background--and that press experience came in handy when she began recruiting labels with which to stock her store. Of the boutique’s mix of casual-cool pieces, she explained, “I just was thinking about things I love to wear. There are no American designers here—it ironically wound up being a lot of European brands, a lot of Australian labels. It wasn’t planned that way, but I wanted to bring back some of that [international] style and sensibility. Everything’s a little more dressed-up, a little more buttoned-up, and that’s really attractive.” Among the Aussie labels on offer? One Teaspoon, Saint Augustine Academy, and Ksubi. The back wall of Super sunglasses shouldn’t be missed, either, and proved a particular hit with partygoers.
