Clearly, SJP's not 100% on board with the idea of someone else inhabiting the role she played for eight years on HBO. But shouldn't we care more about the opinion of the person who actually created the character?
Tonight is the big premiere of The Carrie Diaries, the CW show that aims to tell the back story of New York's favorite fictional sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw as young girl who apparently grew up in the Connecticut 'burbs. With Gossip Girl star stylist Eric Daman on board to provide the beginnings of Carrie's theatrical, over-the-top style, we have high hopes for the 80s-inspired clothing that young Carrie as played by AnnaSophia Robb will wear. But as on-point as we're sure the new show's wardrobe will be, we're having a hard time envisioning us trying to cop a 1980s teenager's style--even if she is Carrie Bradshaw. So we thought we'd reminisce about the amazing outfits of OG CB, played to iconic perfection by Sarah Jessica Parker--and recreate them for all you modern-day Carries out there. Let's be honest: Sex and the City might have been a story about a woman and her soul mates (and the men along the way), but her closet definitely deserved top billing. From being mugged for her Manolos to passing out at the opera, here are our top ten Carrie Bradshaw style moments, and where to get 'em for yourself. Don't forget to check out The Carrie Diaries tonight on the CW (if you're not too busy watching The Bachelor, which is sadly airing in the same time slot. Damn you, basic cable!).
Prepare yourselves: the world might soon know what Carrie Bradshaw looked like in the '80s. After years of speculation on whether or not a Sex and the City prequel would come to be, the balls are finally rolling. The CW, home to shows like Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie, has officially ordered a pilot for The Carrie Diaries, based on the novel by Candace Bushnell.
Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte--there's just something about those four fashionable Manhattanites that whips every girl into a frenzy. Proof? When we arrived early at the Gansevoort Park Avenue yesterday evening for the Gilt City-hosted launch of Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Novel, the estrogen-heavy line already wrapped around the block--and guests were getting pushy. Though no fewer than five security guards and hotel attendants flanked the entrance (we counted), we finally managed to make our way to the penthouse. Out by the mosaic-tiled pool, Gilt members were sipping Xanté-provided cocktails, nibbling on polka-dotted chocolate truffles, and angling to get a few moments with their favorite author.
