Lady Gaga Bids a Record-Breaking $133,000 for an Alexander McQueen Gown at Daphne Guinness's Auction
Yesterday Daphne Guinness put 102 fabulous items from her closet on the block at Christie's to benefit the Isabella Blow Foundation in memory of her late friend and editor, who committed suicide in 2007. According to the Telegraph, Guinness was hoping to raise about £100,000 ($155,994) and instead pulled in almost quintuple that amount, a whopping £476,800 (about $743,782). Among the big ticket items were a Mario Testino portrait of the beer heiress which went for £133,250 ($207,862), and in the process set a new world record selling price for a Testino picture. Another big spender bought an Alexander McQueen dress--called The Girl Who Lived In The Tree (at left)--for £85,250 ($132,985), which also set a record as the most ever spent on a McQueen piece. Turns out the girl with deep pockets was most likely Lady Gaga, a friend and champion of the late designer and a fangirl of both Blow and Guinness.

Fashion News Roundup: Charlotte Casiraghi Is the New Face of Gucci, Daphne Guinness Is Auctioning Her Clothes, and Karl Lagerfeld Becomes a Cartoonist
Place Your Bets on Charlotte Casiraghi for Gucci: The Royal daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco (and granddaughter of Grace Kelly) may be the next face of Gucci. Considering that Gucci provides the 25-year-old with her equestrian kit, this rumor has a lot of horsepower behind it. Plus this blue blood has a Blue Ribbon in fashion: she regularly sports Gucci and Chanel Haute Couture, and she covered the September issue of Paris Vogue. Nothing official yet, so we'll just have to wait for the photo finish. UPDATE: It's confirmed, reports Vogue UK. She'll appear in a four-part series to be shot by Peter Lindbergh, all with a horsey theme. {Telegraph UK} Daphne Guinness to Auction Her Clothing: After buying the late Isabella Blow's entire collection to save it from the auction block, Guinness will now auction off 100 of her own unique pieces on June 27. The auction will be handled by Christie's and the proceeds will go to the new Isabella Blow Foundation, which supports young art and fashion talent. Pieces from the likes of Chanel, Balenciaga, and McQueen will go on display from June 23 to the day of auction. Guinness is known for her incredible wardrobe, so start saving your pennies now! {Vogue UK} Spotted: John Galliano in the Marais: One figure staying quiet in the Dior debate is former creative director Galliano. He's been spotted in Paris keeping a low profile - well, low for Galliano - reportedly wearing a beanie over his signature blond locks and a pencil thin 20's style mustache. He was leaving a café tout seul on Rue de Turenne Saturday night. {WWD}
Daphne Guinness To Exhibit Isabella Blow's Wardrobe at Central St. Martins and Online, Is Starting a Mental Health Foundation
Daphne Guinness has finally revealed, to Charlie Rose of all people, what she plans to do with that wardrobe of Isabella Blow's she bought following Blow's death, to prevent it from being auctioned off. Rose hosted a discussion about the state of fashion with Diane Von Furstenberg, Suzy Menkes and Guinness. For the most part, Guinness appeared shy and didn't say much--Menkes was the most loquacious--but she did share a couple of interesting tidbits. Adding on to a discussion about how the digital revolution is changing and democratizing fashion, she said, I'm going to put together now a show of my friend's clothes who died and I'm going to do that online so that people in New Zealand can see it because they might not be able to get to Central St. Martin's to be able to see that.

Karl Lagerfeld Mentored Lost Lamb Claudia Schiffer: Way back when O.S. (Original Super) Claudia Schiffer was just a homesick little fräulein in the big bad world of modeling, the Kaiser apparently took her under his friendly fingerless-gloved wing as her wise mentor. Sounds just like a modern-day modeling fairy tale. {Vogue UK} Nicki Minaj Wears Prada on Wonderland: For the mag's Feb/March issue, a cotton-candy coiffed Nicki Minaj proves that Prada is for more than just basic bitches. Daphne Guinness Will Be a Window Display Again, Says Barneys Exhibit Was Overwhelming
Remember last spring, when Daphne Guinness famously "got dressed for the Met Ball" in a Barneys window? Well, it turns out that may have just been the first of many of the socialite-turned-performance artist's forays into department store window displays. However, for her next turn, Guinness won't actually be in the window in real life, but in the form of "virtual statues." According to WWD, she's working with Nick Knight's SHOWstudio for window displays at Printemps in Paris called "Visions Couture" to use "cutting-edge three-dimensional scanning technology" to create these statues from photographic images. She will model looks by Paco Rabanne, Gareth Pugh, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens and Junya Watanabe.
