David Lauren talks about bringing the brand into the future in his new role as chief innovation officer.
This was a banner year for weddings. We can't imagine that 2012 could possibly top it. From the three big K's (Kate, Kate, and Kim) to a few less-hyped but nonetheless gorgeous nuptials, it really was an amazing year for tying the knot. And at least 9 of the 10 featured here are still married. Hooray for love! Click through to remember the gowns, the grooms, and everything in between from the most fashionable weddings of the year.
David Lauren and Lauren Bush are engaged, the NY Post is reporting. The fashionable couple started dating six years ago after they met at the Vogue Costume Institute gala, so it was fitting that Lauren proposed Friday night at the Met. It is truly a union of fashion and pedigree. Lauren is the 39-year-old son of Ralph Lauren and Bush is a model, designer (she has a line called Lauren Pierce), and is most known today for her FEED bag charity whose bags and other products combat hunger. We've been awaiting this union because if Lauren Pierce Bush (W's niece) takes her future husband's name she'll be Lauren Lauren. And that will be hilarious.
Ralph Lauren, chairman and CEO of Polo Ralph Lauren, is selling off a big chunk of his personal company shares. The designer and his family are set to receive somewhere between $750 million and $870 million, depending on how many shares are sold--Lauren says he'll give up 9 million to 10.35 million shares. (We valued that dollar figure at yesterday's closing price--$84 per share--which means it could differ greatly depending on the price of the shares when they're actually sold.) Lauren is still the majority shareholder in the company, which means his role isn't changing. Since son David Lauren is being groomed to take over the firm (probably not in a design capacity but most definitely in a leadership capacity) pending his father's retirement, we doubt much more of the company will be offered up to the public--or other shareholders within Polo. Lauren is currently 70-years-old, which means his retirement will likely happen within the next decade.
