It may have more to do with who's watching the shows, as opposed to what the characters are wearing.
We got on the phone with Daman to discuss belts, bros and those controversial Golden Goose sneakers.

We haven't tried David Beckham's new fragrance yet, but if it brings us even a fraction of the joy we feel seeing him shirtless in the advertisement... we'll take it. {Daily Mail} Karl Lagerfeld says he'll do "anything" for Cate Blanchett--including designing her last minute costumes for her new Woody Allen-directed film. {Grazia} Caroline Kennedy has been nominated to be the first female U.S. ambassador to Japan, and as such is now poised to become a style influencer. Tonight is the big premiere of The Carrie Diaries, the CW show that aims to tell the back story of New York's favorite fictional sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw as young girl who apparently grew up in the Connecticut 'burbs. With Gossip Girl star stylist Eric Daman on board to provide the beginnings of Carrie's theatrical, over-the-top style, we have high hopes for the 80s-inspired clothing that young Carrie as played by AnnaSophia Robb will wear. But as on-point as we're sure the new show's wardrobe will be, we're having a hard time envisioning us trying to cop a 1980s teenager's style--even if she is Carrie Bradshaw. So we thought we'd reminisce about the amazing outfits of OG CB, played to iconic perfection by Sarah Jessica Parker--and recreate them for all you modern-day Carries out there. Let's be honest: Sex and the City might have been a story about a woman and her soul mates (and the men along the way), but her closet definitely deserved top billing. From being mugged for her Manolos to passing out at the opera, here are our top ten Carrie Bradshaw style moments, and where to get 'em for yourself. Don't forget to check out The Carrie Diaries tonight on the CW (if you're not too busy watching The Bachelor, which is sadly airing in the same time slot. Damn you, basic cable!).
We caught up with Carrie Diaries costume designer Eric Daman on what we can expect from the new series's take on style icon Carrie Bradshaw--from 80s fashion to bra straps.

It's official: The series finale of Gossip Girl is a mere eleven episodes away. While many a cynic may argue that the show actually ended sometime during the second season, for us die-hard Upper East Side wannabes, this news is harder hitting than a Nairtini to the head. Of course, what we'll miss most of all is the fashion. Gossip Girl has been on top of the fashion game since its first "XOXO" way back in early 2007, and as the series progressed, the characters' signature styles arguably surpassed the plot development in terms of critical praise. Between Blair's preppy headbands, Chuck's dandy suits, and Serena's gravity-defying cleavage, the influence the kids of Constance have had on street style and fashion spreads alike is undeniable. So, as a tearful ode to our favorite CW soap, here's a look back at some of the style stand-outs that have made the last five years of impossible-to-follow plot lines a little more bearable.

FLORENCE--Last night Ferragamo celebrated the opening of a new exhibition devoted to all things Marilyn Monroe at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence. Ferragamo's exhibit comes at the tail end of a resurgence of interest in all things Marilyn kicked off by My Week With Marilyn and buoyed by the release of never before seen photos. This latest manifestation of Marilyn will surely keep interest piqued. Ferragamo got his start in Hollywood as a shoe designer to the stars, Marilyn being one of them, so the photos, costumes, shoes, and artifacts on display (like a custom order for Monroe's shoes, or her appointment book) are impressive. But more on that later. Ferragamo got his start with the stars so it was fitting that the brand wrangled a few for last night's opening. The label has cleverly taken an interest in AnnaSophia Robb, aka young Carrie Bradshaw. Nineteen-year-old Robb is no stranger to the spotlight--she's been acting for years--but she's never been in the fashion spotlight before. And she's about to be in a big way, as The Carrie Diaries has been picked up by the CW with Gossip Girl's Eric Daman doing the costumes. We chatted with the starlet about how it feels to be filling those big Manolos.

The Carrie Bradshaw character in the much-hyped Sex and the City prequel, the CW series The Carrie Diaries, has been cast. And, no, it's not Elizabeth Olsen, as was previously rumored. The new young Carrie is relatively unknown actress AnnaSophia Robb, best known for playing Violet Beauregarde in the 2005 Johnny Depp-version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Long before Elle’s Joe Zee found stratospheric success as a stylist, editor, and yes, reality star, he experienced this horrid reality: As a recent college grad applying to be a fashion editor at WWD, Zee was asked to stage a photo shoot as a test. The results were even more disastrous than any conundrum Bravo or MTV could cook up: first, the location flooded; then, a light fell, exploded, and caught on fire. And his model? A no-show. By the time Zee did damage control and found another model to fit the clothes, the location kicked them out, closing before they’d even shot a single frame. Needless to say, Zee didn’t get that WWD job, and to this day he “can’t even explain the level of devastation” he felt. So how, then, did Zee become such a force in the fashion world?
Lately, the cool thing, if you're famous, is to claim that you don't have a stylist. (Cough, Blake Lively, cough cough.) Sometimes, that's true. But most of the time, chances are someone is likely helping the starlet make clothing decisions, even if it's not a Rachel Zoe/Nicole Richie-type relationship. There are some stylists who make celebrities look like they've done it themselves. Leslie Fremar, who styles Julianne Moore, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Connelly, and several other perfect specimens, makes her clients feel so comfortable on the red carpet that for years I fully believed Gyllenhaal did it solo. But alas, what celebrity has time to go it alone, especially when it's a big event like the Oscars? As one publicist told me, "I don't think they have time to find PR contacts, you know?" Even Chloe Sevigny, whose style is innately her own--probably more than any other celebrity--uses a stylist for big events. Ezra Woods, her sometimes-stylist, also works with Michelle Williams, who looks as effortless on the street as she does on the red carpet. (And there's no way Woods is picking out her outfits every morning.) Perfect person Gwyneth Paltrow even started using someone after her too loose Ralph Lauren dress at the 1999 Oscars. (Although I loved it regardless.) So what about Blake? And Diane? And January? What's truth and what's fiction? Here are the real stories behind these stars without stylists:
“She’s not an anorexic bitch, she has tits and an ass...Blake is in her 20s and has a hot body, she’s a teen icon of high fashion and we haven’t reall
While the quality of Gossip Girl’s plot lines may be diminishing (Dan has a baby? Really?), the quality of the show's wardrobe is definitely stable. With the tour de force that was Serena and Blair’s summer in Paris, it might even be getting better. This is all thanks to Eric Daman, who might have the best job in the world. I mean, he gets to dress Chuck Bass. Following two of Gossip Girl’s strongest episodes to date (fashion-wise), we spoke to Eric about his amazing day job, Taylor Momsen, the only show he went to during fashion week, and his latest gig with Match.com providing first date outfit advice, some of which he was nice enough to share with us. (And FYI--if you want a free 7-day Match.com trial, click here) What qualifies Daman for such a job? He draws an interesting comparison: “Like TV, most of your date will be from the waist up.” (He recommends “something sparkly” like a necklace or earrings to decorate the oh so important above-the-waist area.) Whether or not your first date involves run-ins with Lou Doillon and balls with French dignitaries, there is no one better suited than Eric to dole out sartorial advice. His first words of wisdom? “Guys love shoes as much as girls do,” Eric insists, citing a poll that suggests a majority of men prefer that their date wear heels. However, he doesn’t necessarily want all girls to dress like Blair Waldorf on the first date. Being yourself, and reflecting that with your attire, is more important. “I think women don’t know to listen to themselves enough. Their inner voice is their best friend. I think its best to always be firm about who you are, because that's who you want to project and who you want the person across the table to fall in love with.” Still, we want to know, what would Blair wear on a first date?
