Hurricane Sandy is upon us--but the fashion industry isn't letting this Frankenstorm bring them down. We checked in with some of our favorite people in the industry--from The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine to Kelly Cutrone to DKNY PR Girl Aliza Licht--to find out how they prepped for tonight's storm. For an industry that's supposed to shun carbs we are collectively loaded up on them--as well as candy, nail polish, and fashion mags to read by scented candle light. Click through to see how everyone is getting ready. And above all, everybody stay safe!!
Don't get us wrong. We love Zara. They boil down trends as soon as they leave the runways and whip out their own version at a price point we can afford. But sometimes this fast fashion giant "interprets" designs a bit too literally. Case in point: This necklace, which has been in Fenton/Fallon's "Fallon Classiques" collection on and off since 2008.

We love Fenton/Fallon for its tough yet glossy appeal--now the guys get a chance to be adorned by Dana Lorenz. The designer just announced that she's launching a full-blown mens collection for Spring 2011, as well as collaborating with our favorite menswear designer Tim Hamilton on jewelry for his REDUX line. Lorenz's main collection will retail from retail from $150-$500 and includes leather-wrapped bracelets and necklaces. The designer says that she wants men to be at ease in her pieces. "Guys still want to wear things they forget they have on, that are comfortable and natural--but I wanted to push the boundaries of that a little.” For Hamilton, she's doing everything from pins and pendants to wallet chains--14 exclusive pieces in total. Here's a sneak peek at what's in store.
Fashion's Night Out is two weeks from tomorrow! There is more going on than we can even wrap our heads around. Having trouble deciding where you want to go and who you want to see the most? Well, if you're interested in catching a peak of one of your favorite designers, here's a roundup of where some of the biggest and the best will be on September 10. We've excluded most of the people we've already reported on. Also, it's almost safe to say that if someone isn't on this list, they will probably be at Barneys. Michael Kors Michael will be at his lifestyle store on Madison and 61st in New York City. He will be joined by TONY Award winner Idina Menzel, whom Michael will accompany on a selection of songs. Michael will also make an appearance nearby at Bloomingdale’s 59th street, where the “World of Michael” will be created to kick off a new Michael Kors handbag shop-in-shop. Tommy Hilfiger Tommy will be kicking off FNO and his brand’s 25th anniversary at Macy’s Herald Square. As we’ve reported, Macy’s will house “The Ultimate Tailgate Party” as inspired by Tommy’s most recent ad campaign. Tommy will be accompanied by Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren. He will also make an appearance at his Fifth Avenue store, where shoppers can have their purchases personalized with an exploding monogram while they shop, listen to DJ Toddlerone and drink up.
Last night Dana Lorenz of Fenton Fallon dumped out her precious craft box to let fashion bloggers have a go at creating their own Fenton Fallon-ish necklaces. The tables were lined with all the bits and baubles that go into making that one-of-a-kind Fenton Fallon jewelry we love: heavy strips of chain in neon colors, fat strands of pearls, scraps of rhinestone costume jewelry, and much much more. It was overwhelming. Luckily there were martinis on hand (because there's nothing like a martini for making working with tiny jewelry pliers easier).
A recent survey conducted by MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk found that almost fifty percent of women prefer to keep their clothes on during sex. Why? According to the Telegraph, who first reported on the survey, 54 percent of women keep at least one item of clothing on while doing the nasty to "improve body confidence." We don't really buy it. Sex is about being naked, right? The survey sample size was only 1,563 people anyway. But we decided to have some fun with this and recommend some of the more ridiculous pieces of clothing and accessories to wear during sex. If you must. Here are our picks. What would you keep on?
It's no secret that Fashionista loves Dana Lorenz and her jewelry line, Fenton/Fallon. She just unveiled her Fall 2010 collection, and we stopped by her boutique to drool over it. Her signature touches and familiar DNA are still there, but tweaked. Chunky base metal chains are wrapped and stacked, sometimes mixed with Swarovski crystals. We loved a simple white metal three-chain sculptured necklace.
