The company finally has leadership in place. Next up: continuing to elevate marketing and upgrade stores.
Plus, Betsy Bloomingdale passed away at the age of 93.
Ashley Sargent Price will be responsible for marketing all Abercrombie brands on a global level.
Hollister President Fran Horowitz is taking up a newly created position, effective immediately.
Its men's product is still in need of improvement, though.
Sales are still dropping, but according to execs, they've been sinking less over the last few months.
The company is banishing all of its "sexualized marketing."
On that last point: finally!
It's one of the first steps in the retailer's branding overhaul.
Hollister, whose stores are a place for teens to hang out in dark corners and shout at each other over very loud music -- oh, and to buy clothes, presumably -- is changing its business model in a major way.
After a weak year, Abercrombie & Fitch is looking to add outside brands to its store offerings. Will that be enough to draw shoppers back inside?
The outlook isn't great right now for so-called "teen" retailers. We polled teenagers from across the country -- and a Wall Street analyst, too -- about why they think the Abercrombies, Aeropostales and American Eagles of the world aren't doing so well.
Fashion people may be able to run a mile in Louboutins and fight their way through hectic sample sales, but when it comes to large New York City storms, they are really just big babies. {StyleBistro} Between fabulous clothing, amazing apartments, and $100 blow-outs, it's hard not to ponder the salaries of Conde Nast's magazine editors. Here's a guesstimated breakdown to sate your curiosity. {Fashion Etc.} Austrian archeologists have found what is believed to be the oldest bra ever. *gasp* It's age is speculated to be around 600 years old. {HuffPo} Lady Gaga has released a video for her highly anticipated perfume. {Little Monsters}
First Look: Mary Katrantzou For TopShop! White Light, White Heat: Upscale L.A. brand Fred Segal has partnered with Akomplice to sell a Paint Project-friendly kit to promote positive environmental decision-making. How, you ask? If everyone painted their roofs white (thereby lowering cooling costs by reflecting the sun's light instead of absorbing it), the amount of energy saved would be comparable to taking every car in the world off the roads for 11 (!) years. Looks like white just may be the new black. {Coolhunting}
Racked NY reported earlier that the bed bug infested Hollister Soho had their infamous zinc-nosed topless models positioned outside the store to tell shoppers they were closed until further notice. Now they're gone and all that's left is this hastily-made sign.
Bedbugs take over Hollister: SoHo's biggest annoyance has become a breeding ground for one of NYC's biggest annoyances: bedbugs. The infestation has shut down the store indefinitely and will likely cause even bigger problems for the company, from returns to lawsuits to no one wanting to go within 1,000 feet of that store because bedbugs are so gross. Although the store is closed, they've apparently stationed three shirtless models as a sign of tenacity or something. {Racked} Happy Coco Rocha Month!: Each month at Vogue UK, a fashionista is invited to give readers a daily peak inside her wardrobe. Past months have included Alexa Chung and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Today is Coco's first day. Check out her Topshop shorts and Aldo shoes. {Vogue UK} Lohan's Latest Law Battle: Lindsay Lohan apparently picked up $17,060.83 worth of clothing from L.A. boutique Church and didn't pay for them, claiming her "business manager" would foot the bill. Lindsay is definitely at fault here, but we think Church should take a little responsibility for, i don't know, letting a crazy celebrity walk out of their store without paying for 17 grand worth of merchandise. {TMZ}
Love 'em or hate 'em, if you're passing through SoHo, the spectacle of the Hollister greeters on Broadway is hard to miss. They wear neon board shorts, sunblock on their noses, flip flops, and, well, that's about it. So when we were thinking about what kind of sunblock to invest in for the summer, we figured the sunblock the boys of Hollister use was a good place to start. They stand outside in the glaring sun for six hour shifts, so whatever they're slathering on their precious noses better be good. And if white zinc--the Hollister sunblock of choice--isn't your thing (and we're betting it isn't), we consulted Angelique Serrano, Beauty Editor at Allure, for the best sunscreens.
