An ode to a time before blowout bars and keratin treatments.
The award show honored the achievements of Black women across a variety of industries.

Fashion month: It's finally, truly over.
Subtle, Versace is not. Last night I made my way into Versace's show space on Via Gesu--which is usually "mood" lit so dimly that I have to watch my every step--to find a stark-white, insanely brightly lit room, arranged in a sort of maze-like structure, with the audience seated in the center. Oh, and Janet Jackson was there.
Believe it or not but the Grammys is starting to have a lot more in common with our real-life grammy. Both were way cooler a few decades ago, take no issue with sleep-inducing television, and now, share an affinity for modest dressing!
The Latest on YSL v. Louboutin: Yes, this is still happening. YSL's lawyers have now filed their appeal against Christian Louboutin's latest appeal, which was due by the end of 2011. Way back in April, Louboutin sued YSL for selling a (red) shoe with a red sole, claiming the famed footwear designer had put a trademark on scarlet soles in 2008 - which the judge then deemed invalid. But clearly, Chris L. wasn't about to give up without a fight. Y'all got drama, the saga continues. {WWD} PETA Names Janet Jackson, Kim Kardashian "Celeb Grinches": Is wearing fur the same as hating Christmas? PETA, who sure has a way with biting commentary, called Miss-Jackson-if-you're-nasty "just plain nasty" for her apparent love of animal pelts and collaboration with Blackglama. Fur-lover Kim K has also been blacklisted, unlike her "sweet sister Khloe" who starred in an anti-fur PETA ad. {Telegraph} Kate Moss Vogue Cover Gets Dupli-Kated: What ever happened to originality (and budgets), people? Australian mag Madison's Jan 2012 cover is a more saturated version of Kate Moss's Vogue Paris cover from June/July 2010. And you may remember that just a few weeks back, Carey Mulligan's American Vogue cover was reincarnated as a French Elle cover. These photos are without a doubt lovely, but isn't the point of a fashion mag to sell clothes? Pretty sure those outfits are out of season... {HuffPo}
Last night, Glamour magazine held their 20th annual Women of the Year Awards. The amount of lady power that packed Carnegie Hall was staggering and inspiring. Honorees included Queen Rania of Jordan, Cher, Julia Roberts, Constance McMillen (who took a stand when she couldn't take her girlfriend to prom) and Donatella Versace. Oprah, Kate Hudson, Katie Couric, Janet Jackson, Hilary Swank and Diane Sawyer were among the presenters. Tavi Gevinson was there too, recognized as one of the mag's 20 young women who are already changing the world. Sequined and spectacled in clear frames, Tavi looked a bit sheepish when Chelsea Clinton described her as blogging her way to become one of the most well known fashion writers out there. One of the most compelling moments of the evening (and there were many), came when Janet Jackson presented Donatella Versace with her award. Through tears (and in a black Atelier Versace gown), Janet explained that when her brother died she called Donatella because she knew she would understand. "We both lost brothers," Janet said, "we share a very deep bond." Having her family wear Versace to Michael's funeral "meant we were dressed in love," Janet said.
There were murmurs of, "Wow, that looks like Courtney Love," at the Serpentine Gallery last night. Pringle held their show in the middle of Kensingto
The memorial service for the King of Pop is about to get under way. And until we did our morning read of WWD, we hadn't even thought about how it woul
