We thought Coachella ended Sunday, but at the AnOther Magazine/AnOther Man party at Milk Studios in Los Angeles on Tuesday, we felt like maybe there’s always a little Coachella in LA. Editor-in-Chief Jefferson Hack historically throws edgy, slightly unconventional, star-studded parties to fete his edgy, slightly unconventional, star-studded bi-annual publications. Partnering with Milk Studios co-owner Mazdack Rassi, Hack did not deviate from his fail-safe formula, with stars like Joshua Jackson, Orlando Bloom, Andrej Pejic, Liz Goldwyn, Sky Ferreira, Frankie Rayder, and China Chow packed into Milk’s airy and gorgeous LA digs.
LONDON--Fashion Week crowds across the globe are awaking from a bleary eyed winter slumber to the spectacle of the Fall 2011 collections. So what better timing than the night before London's catwalks ignite, for biannual magazine AnOther to celebrate its first decade of razor's edge fashion editorial. Editor-in-Chief Jefferson Hack placed illustrated birthday cards from designer pals--including Karl Lagerfield, Alber Elbaz of Lanvin, the Missoni family, Philip Treacy and Gareth Pugh--into the hands of local patissiers to create 10 birthday cakes on display through the weekend at Selfridges. "I wanted to inspire our readers with the insane possibilities of what can be achieved at the highest level in bringing fashion and food together," says Hack.
For AnOther Magazine's 10th birthday they're planning on celebrating with lots of cake. But not just any cake--they've enlisted ten of the world's top designers and matched them with ten top chefs to create what they're touting as the "ultimate birthday cakes." Leave it to editor Jefferson Hack to assemble an A-list fashion and foodie line up to fete his mag. Riccardo Tisci, Francisco Costa, Gareth Pugh, Christian Louboutin, Philip Treacy, Alber Elbaz, Frida Giannini, Angela Missoni, Vivienne Westwood and Christopher Bailey are all designing cakes for the bash, which is being called "Eat the Designers." “We want this project to inspire our readers and the public with the insane possibilities of what can be achieved at the highest level in bringing fashion and food together, “ Hack said in a release regarding the event.
Katie Grand is, by far, one of my all time favorite fashion heroes. Every time I work with her and for her I learn SO much. Not only is she one of the only editors that gives me the space and platform to do much of my favorite styling work, she gives me the opportunity to collaborate with the BEST people in the business. For that, I will forever be in Katie's debt. When I worked for Katie at Pop magazine, she taught me what it means to be a fashion visionary and an incredible business woman. I'm not going to go into a long spiel here about her biography; I really wanted to chat with her specifically about styling. For this column, I will be conducting a series of interviews with people in different fashion roles who hire and work with stylists, or the iconic stylists themselves. Katie answered my questions with the honesty and humor that I always appreciate from her. I learned so much reading her answers, I hope you guys do too! Here it goes.... SL: How long have you been styling? It began when you started Dazed & Confused with Rankin and Jefferson Hack in 1993, right? KG: Yeah, I was at St Martins and met Rankin and Jefferson at a bar in the basement of the Trocadero called DNA and I started working on Dazed, initially folding magazines, and then my first story was a white t-shirt story, shot by a friend of mine, Gary, who was at St. Martins doing photography. SL: What led you to styling versus doing another job in fashion, like design?
PARIS--Days after Brit expat Gareth Pugh's Mercury and Ebony S/S 2011 collection was presented on an 8 x 15 meter Imax screen to a warehouse full of buyers and press, the avant-garde designer sits for an informal Q&A at the Louvre's Apple Store. The avant-gardeist snapped up France's ANDAM award in 2008 and was rumored as next in line at McQueen and Dior Homme. The last in a series presented by Dazed and Confused called "Meet the Designer" the magazine's co-founder Jefferson Hack talks with the young designer about the tentative future of catwalk shows, his sold-out shop in Hong Kong and why Saint Martins does not a star make. Jefferson Hack: Gareth's first store opened in Hong Kong in July. It was designed by Iwan from from Daytrip Studio who is super young, like 25. What was it like working with him? Garreth Pugh: I've known him since he was 18 and we're very good friends, I think that helps. My two stipulations were that I wanted it to look like a black box inside and that one wall could control video.
Superintern: Some interns spend their entire internships getting coffee and making copies. Others, like this Alex Wang intern, have their doodles featured in their boss' Spring '11 collection. {Nylon} Betty White's Golden Years: Check out a slide show that chronicles Betty White's "style evolution." We all know the actress is not lacking in personality and she's certainly never been afraid to take fashion risks. {Style List} Dazed and Some Shoes: Dazed & Confused/Another Magazine publisher Jefferson Hack has worn many hats throughout his career and now might try is hand at designing shoes. The collection, intended for Spring '11 delivery, will reportedly be revealed in Miami. {Elle UK} Givenchy at Disney? Givenchy will reportedly open their first U.S. perfume boutique...in Disney World. You can find it in the faux France section of Epcot. I've never been to Disney World, but this sounds pretty out of place, no? {Fashion Indie}
