How on earth do you disrupt New York Fashion Week? If you’re Lexus and you want to top your competitor Mercedes-Benz--which probably has the largest hold over New York Fashion Week among all the automakers, being the primary sponsor at Lincoln Center and all--you do something drastically different, like team up with MADE Fashion Week, Coco Rocha, Giles Deacon, Joe Zee and Legs, the award winning multimedia arm of Milk Studios to present a revolutionary live fashion performance called Lexus Design Disrupted that involves holographs--yes, holographs.
Fashion week officially kicked off today, and we dove right into things head-first. From Rachel Comey's perfectly intimate dinner presentation to the mobbed Phillip Lim for Target event, we were everywhere.
In our seventh episode of Haute Cuisine we venture off to the Hollywood Hills where we meet our friend Chrissy Teigen. At her and fiancé John Legend’s beautiful home, Teigen and Mommy Teigen both share their secrets to creating the best Papaya Salad (hint: it’s in the way you cut the vegetables!)
If you follow model Chrissy Teigen on Twitter or Instagram, you know she's hilarious, unfiltered, sassy, and sometimes controversial (just last night she got into a row with followers about "slut shaming"). I can tell you that she's exactly the same in person.
NY1 traffic reporter and Complex Magazine dating columnist Jamie Shupak went to DC this weekend to see what Washington’s “Nerd Prom” is all about. While her and her boyfriend, New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter didn’t attend the actual White House Correspondents Dinner (long-standing NYT company policy) they did hit all the weekend’s festivities. It’s Friday evening and I’m standing at the bar of The New Yorker’s party at the W Hotel with New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. We’re playing the first of many rounds of “New York – DC – Hollywood” which is exactly as it sounds. You point to a person in the room and based on their outfit, guess where they’re from. I warm him up with an easy one. “Dark blue satin,” I say, gesturing to a woman nearby who looks like she just walked off the floor of the Senate. He laughs to avoid answering. (The Commish is so politically correct.) He then looks down at his own getup – head-to-toe black of course – then back up to me. With a shrug and a smile he smirks, “New York.” This game, just like the intersection of DC political types, New York media, and Hollywood celebrities, is both fascinating and funny.
