It’s about to happen: Fashion’s Night Out. You’ve already watched the Biebs and Posh plug the night on repeat and studied up on where to find free f
1. First things first, didn’t The Muppets come out about two months ago? 2. Isn’t this show’s lack of a German accent throwing you off? 3. What happened to Austin's voluminous back-bow concept? And how did it transform into a side-saddle fanny pack bow on each hip? 4. Anthony, why aren’t you embarrassed at your lack of ability to install a zipper? On the all-star series of all places?
Along with making ridiculously sexy heels that pretty ladies love to wear--from both his main line collection and his B Brian Atwood diffusion line--shoe designer Brian Atwood has entered the mini-movie business. Well, sort of. Unveiled in November, the B Brian Atwood “Vibrant Tears Killer Heels” video basically represents color-blocking through, well, a model crying candy-colored paint tears all over her smoking hot and unclothed body, to finally drip onto a diabolical Resort ’11 platform pump. Now the dishy designer is at it again with a racy new vid promoting another pair of come-hither fringed strappies for his Spring ‘12 B collection. We were lucky enough to receive an exclusive invitation to drop by the steamy video shoot at Triad, a teeny burlesque-style theater located above a Turkish restaurant on W. 72nd Street (who knew?). We arrived as a very leggy model was in full rehearsal mode, shaking her groove thing in killer heels and lingerie for the directors. All in a day’s work. Then we headed upstairs to the balcony overlooking the action for a nice chat with the dreamy Atwood (honestly, his handsomeness is distracting). Keep an eye out for the completed video in January 2012, but in the meantime, here are the designer’s thoughts on his B line, Manolo Blahnik’s well-documented hatred of platforms, and that notorious Hollywood diva - Miss Piggy:
Last night we had the pleasure of attending a pre-screening of The Muppets, which officially opens tomorrow (many thanks to Bliss Spa for the mani and movie!) Anyway, it was brilliant. The producers of this flick are obviously big fans of the Muppets, and they've treated their subjects with complete affection, and tossed in a heavy dose of nostalgia (try not to cry during the Piggy/Kermit "Rainbow Connection" duet). The humor is cheesy, but with a clever wink at the audience, and the celeb cameos are inspired. Emily Blunt reprises her The Devil Wears Prada role as the snarky fashion assistant (albeit with wackier hair) to Mlle. Piggy, who is a plus-size editor at Vogue Paris. How controversial. Anyway, we won't spoil the sweet moments of the movie. You should go stand in line and see it first thing tomorrow. The protaganists go through a bit of angst in the middle of the film and sing a song called, "Am I a Man or am I a Muppet?" Why choose? We think there's a little of both in all of us. So, to that end, we present our favorite Muppets and the fashion people who could play them. Or vice versa.
We've already examined Miss Piggy's style evolution, which has definitely entered a new, high-fashion period as she's on the cusp of opening her first new movie in 12 years. (Well, she's technically part of an ensemble cast, but Piggy obviously shines and will find a way to the top of the movie poster). While her style tends to run a bit to the drag queen side of the spectrum--which we support and embrace--she's just landed an eight-page editorial spread in November's InStyle, WWD reports, wearing some of the classiest designers in the business. Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Suno, Opening Ceremony, Brian Atwood, and Giles & Brother all created custom pieces especially for the diva's InStyle spread. Jason Wu (at left) went with his signature feathers, while Prabal Gurung (below) opted for a more sedate all-white number. You can see the whole editorial on Friday when the mag hits newsstands.
Miss Piggy is poised to make her silver screen comeback this November in the latest (and long overdue) Muppet movie. Some big fashion names are attached to the film, too (in which she plays a Vogue Paris editrix)--Zac Posen and Louboutin made her costumes. Like any good star plugging a new film, she's been all over the place lately. She appeared at Opening Ceremony in NYC during Fashion's Night Out. Last week Lifetime announced she'd be a judge on Project Runway All Stars, and a few days ago there was an unconfirmed rumor sweeping the internet that she was the new face of MAC. Miss Piggy has always owned her sometimes over-the-top style and her zaftig proportions since she first hit the scene in the mid-1970s. And she looks pretty damn good for a lady who's been in showbiz for 40 years. (Though it's fairly obvious that she's had a nip and tuck here and there). Miss Piggy loves fashion, and she's gone through the same bad trends we have. She's done Farrah Fawcett hair, perms, the Rachel, and even gone brunette. Click through to see how Miss Piggy's style has evolved through the years. Just don't make fun of her--she's been known to hurl frogs through a window.
If there's one thing Fashion's Night Out is good for, it's seeing celebrities. As our street research taught us, people may not drop dollars but they
I think Christmas has come early this year, because today we have two whole Muppets-related posts and they weren't even on our wish list! In honor of the forthcoming Muppets movie, OPI will release 12 limited-edition nail colors inspired by your favorite puppets. The collection will hit stores early November 2011, just in time for you to nab a shade and wear it for the November 23 premiere of the movie. The range will include classic and deep reds, two metallic shades and a slew of glittery polishes, including rainbow, red, purple, pink, blue and--of course--a to-die-for green that might make "being green" a little bit easier for Kerm. And since it's OPI, one of the best parts of the collection is of course the funny names the nail polish company comes up with. Our favorites?
Opening ceremony has a lot going on for their carnival-themed Fashion's Night Out bash in and around their Ace Hotel store location. Firstly, the beloved indie department store will announce this year's country of focus: Argentina. They'll be partnering with 125-year-old Argentinean textile company Alpargatas to create limited edition shoes and clothing inspired by traditional Argentinean styles--in particular, they'll be hawking jupe-soled Alpargatas (aka espadrille-like slip-ons), which, in case you hadn't guessed, were pioneered by the company. Opening Ceremony will also carry Argentine designers, including JUNGLE Vi.Ai.Pi., Ale Sly, and Chicco Ruiz, to customize styles, colorways, and fabrications for the retailer and brand--all of which will become available this September. Best of all though, is that Miss Piggy (yes, really) will be stopping by the brand's store in the Ace Hotel this Fashion's Night Out. Why you ask? To unveil her new collection with the brand, Muppets x Opening Ceremony a.k.a the best news we've heard all morning (and we'd still say that even if it weren't a dreadfully slow summer news day)!
K-Stew's Vogue Cover Leaks: We told you yesterday that Kristen Stewart was Vogue's February cover girl and now the good people at The Fashion Spot have scanned it in. She's wearing Proenza Schouler and looks every bit as angsty and miz as we expected.
