The 12 Years a Slave actress covers New York Magazine's Spring Fashion issue.
While the singer's music career is her primary focus, it's not the main source of her livelihood. Will her legal slip-up bring her modeling career to a halt?
Marc Jacobs and his multitude of tattoos get profiled in New York Magazine's September issue--he says "Who cares?" if he regrets them later in life. Perhaps the best one of all is Jacobs's super-meta cartoon version of himself, complete with mini-versions of his other actual tattoos... um, just look at it. {The Cut} Rihanna's third collection for River Island is here! Aside from the shiny knee-length basketball shorts and a Where's Waldo jumpsuit (ONLY YOU can wear those, Ri. Please understand.), the crop tops and maxi skirts are pretty great. {Grazia} Calvin Klein's former boy toy Nick Gruber discusses his troubled past with New York Magazine--and it almost makes us look past all those brawls he keeps getting himself into. {The Cut}
"There comes a time when a girl has got to put on her heels and sally forth!" Robin Givhan told us of her new gig.
Elle Fanning covers New York Magazine's spring fashion issue looking as sweet as a cupcake. Literally. Her hair is adorned with cake icing flowers, and the sugary theme continues in her super cute spring fashion spread. (Think eyelid cupcake sprinkles.) We love it. Fanning also proves that she's still one of the coolest teenagers on the planet, who, at the tender age of 14, has a very developed sense of what she does and doesn't like fashion-wise.
After nearly 50 years in the business, it's no wonder 80-year-old Oscar de la Renta has a lot to say about the fashion industry. Like, really a lot. The designer sat down for a revealing interview with William Norwich for New York magazine's spring fashion issue. Find out what de la Renta had to say about just what John Galliano is doing in his studio and how he got there; the fact that Michelle Obama has never worn his designs; and making up with Cathy Horyn.
As has increasingly become the case with political figures (female ones in particular), Christine Quinn's appearance and style are a hot topic of discussion--both in the press and among her colleagues.
For its September fashion issue, New York Magazine chose a cover girl with a rather conflicted relationship to fashion: Kim Kardashian. Of course, th

FHM Philippines Scraps Racist Cover: FHM Philippines planned to publish their March issue with a cover featuring local fair-skinned actress, Bela Padilla pushing past a group of Filipina models painted to appear black. The offending photo was captioned "stepping out of the shadows." As expected, FHM Philippines "apologized" profusely, saying, “In our pursuit to come up with edgier covers, we will strive to be more sensitive.” When the BBC asked Ms. Padilla about the cover, she expressed surprise at the negative reaction, claiming they "weren't thinking of racial discrimination" during the shoot. It seems Ms. Padilla and co. weren't thinking at all. {BBC} Kate Moss, Not Alexa Chung, Was Supposed to Float on Knives at Stella McCartney's Party: The model was set to be in illusionist Hans Klok's magic act, but her paralyzed arm kept her from participating. Alexa Chung, being the trooper she is, stepped in at the last minute. {Grazia} Kate Middleton Wears an M Missoni Coat: What's that you say? Kate Middleton wore clothes on a visit somewhere? Fancy that! The Duchess hit up Fortnum & Mason yesterday in a blue M Missoni coat and grey suede pumps. {Grazia}
New York magazine's fall fashion issue features a lengthy profile on J. Crew president, Jenna Lyons. When I started reading it I thought I couldn't admire Lyons any more than I already do - she worked her way up in a national company and revitalized J. Crew from a fuddy-duddy lady brand into the coolest thing for ladies of all ages. But lo and behold, there were a slew of facts about the California native that even the most obsessed Lyons follower wouldn't have known. So click through to find out more about Jenna Lyons. (Bonus fact: Her workspace is cooler than yours... and ours too.)
This week in Editorial Musical Chairs, two former T employees found new jobs. Bifen Xu, formerly T's associate fashion editor, has been named fashion editor at New York Magazine. T's former fashion market editor Melissa Ventosa Martin is now style director at Glamour. Town & Country snapped up W's Jamie Rosen to fill Janet Carlson's position as beauty director. Town & Country's former beauty and health editor (which is different from beauty director) Nina Judar was named Good Housekeeping's beauty director. WSJ's new EIC Deborah Needleman brought on another former Domino staffer--Lauren Goodman--to consult on fashion coverage for the Wall Street Journal's new lifestyle section. Ben Reardon, former editor of i-D has been named editor of British GQ Style. He has been replaced by former deputy editor Holly Shackelton.
Since last week’s edition of Editorial Musical Chairs, the most noteworthy and surprising development has been Anne Christensen’s move to Glamour. She just left her fashion director position at T a few weeks ago, reportedly to focus on a freelance career, but instead will be Glamour’s new executive fashion director, effective August 24th. The position was previously held by Xanthipi Joannides, who left the magazine last month.
