Plus, fashion people are complaining about having to schlepp to Brooklyn for Alexander Wang's show. THE HORROR.
How can you possibly make an ad campaign starring Chloë Sevigny even cooler? By bringing on Purple Diary editor Olivier Zahm and Ryan McGinley, for starters. Yep, it's the ultimate cool kid trifecta--and Uniqlo made good use of it for its fall 2013 campaign.

Dont judge a book by its cover... Unless it's a magazine, in which case, sometimes the cover is the deciding factor of whether or not to buy the mag altogether. The best covers of 2011 returned to a new naturalism and a fun aesthetic, like the Lara Stone T cover we're still drooling over, pictured at left. Sure, there's still room for artifice in fashion (see: Stella Tennant on Vogue Italia), but 2011 was a year for reflecting on natural beauties, incredible models, and stellar photography. After toiling over hundred of covers, we're bringing you "The Best" according to us. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know in the comments.
This photo, titled "Lindsay Lohan in the dressing room at Miu Miu, New York" popped up on Purple Diary yesterday. We have so many questions:more 1)
Last night we had the pleasure of attending a pre-screening of The Muppets, which officially opens tomorrow (many thanks to Bliss Spa for the mani and movie!) Anyway, it was brilliant. The producers of this flick are obviously big fans of the Muppets, and they've treated their subjects with complete affection, and tossed in a heavy dose of nostalgia (try not to cry during the Piggy/Kermit "Rainbow Connection" duet). The humor is cheesy, but with a clever wink at the audience, and the celeb cameos are inspired. Emily Blunt reprises her The Devil Wears Prada role as the snarky fashion assistant (albeit with wackier hair) to Mlle. Piggy, who is a plus-size editor at Vogue Paris. How controversial. Anyway, we won't spoil the sweet moments of the movie. You should go stand in line and see it first thing tomorrow. The protaganists go through a bit of angst in the middle of the film and sing a song called, "Am I a Man or am I a Muppet?" Why choose? We think there's a little of both in all of us. So, to that end, we present our favorite Muppets and the fashion people who could play them. Or vice versa.
Jeremy Scott's predictably insane collections tend to echoe the young, urbane, hipster party vibe of his front rows (Sky Ferreira, The MisShapes, Olivier Zahm, Cory Kennedy, Peaches Geldof, Waris Ahluwalia, to name a few of yesterday's attendees). However, this season, his reference points were a bit more down-home, but not without Scott's sexy (and at times obscene) rock and roll twist. And I don't think anyone could do a hillbilly-inspired collection without a sense of humor...or without being Jeremy Scott, actually. For girls, there were pale denim overall bustiers, ruffly off-the-shoulder crop tops and skin tight mini skirts and dresses, all appropriate for a hillbilly who likes to party. However, the women's looks were tame in comparison to the men's. Almost every men's look included a pair of "pants" with the butt and crotch cut out--not surprising at all for Scott. We're not sure who would wear those other than male strippers, but that's not really the point.
About a year ago, we were beyond delighted to learn that Purple editor Olivier Zahm was working on a book about former Paris Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. At that point, the book sounded like an autobiography that Olivier was writing--however, based on photographs that have just popped up on both Style.com and Vogue.com (who also has a funny interview with Carine), it looks to be more of a photographic look back at Roitfeld's life and career thus far--which makes perfect sense given her legendary styling. The aptly titled Irreverent, is due out October 18 published by Rizzoli and is currently available to pre-order on Amazon for $63.00. Not bad! Click through for images straight from the 400-page book, including old family photgraphs, some of Carine's most memorable shoots, Lara Stone and Crystal Renn's first Paris Vogue appearances, a sweet thank you note from Tom Ford and more. Not included: a shot of Carine wearing nothing but a g-string and white pumps; but, according to Style.com, it's in there. Take a look at what's inside, courtesy of Style.com and Vogue.com.
"This issue might again look like a chic skin magazine. But Purple Fashion isn't a sex magazine hiding behind the façade of fashion. We prefer to think of nudity as Roland Barthes did, that it's the Degree Zero of style. Nudity imprints itself on time, along with architecture, fashion, music, and art."
While Dov Charney's latest accuser, Kimbra Lo, was making her case on this morning's Today Show, our Inboxes were bombarded with rumors of her alleged past. Along with rumors that she at one point dated Olivier Zahm--she appears on his Purple Diary here, here, and here--she has also posed for upscale erotic magazine Jacques. Fashionista has obtained the images, but we're not running them until we are granted permission from the magazine.
Of course the question after "What will Carine do next?" is: "Who will replace her?" We have our own ideas. Some are so out there that we can't imagine them actually happening, but it's fun to think about. Who would you like to see replace Carine at Vogue Paris? (Okay, we know the real answer is "no one," but that's not an option.) Click through to see our picks.
Meanwhile, Across the Pond: The British Fashion Council and British Vogue announced their Fashion Fund finalists yesterday. Congrats to Christopher Kane, E. ISTANBUL--Istanbul Fashion Week may be new, but it's not lacking for bold faced names in the front row. Pat Field is a fixture, which makes sense, since Istanbul Fashion Week's press kit says she "aims to introduce the Turkish brands and designers to the world and to turn Istanbul into an effective fashion center." It's a tall order, but if anyone can make Istanbul happen, it's Pat Field. The vibrant colors and energy of Istanbul are right up her alley. In addition to Field, fashion stars abound. Anna Piaggi is here, and she gets a deserved applause when she enters the venue. So is ELLE's Kate Lanphear, Lynn Yaeger, Alexandra Richards and Olivier Zahm (with daughter in tow). Alek Wek has also been spotted. And according to twitter, LOVE covergirl Alessandra Ambrosio just touched down at Ataturk Airport hours ago, where she was surprised to find paps waiting for her at immigration. We're looking forward to seeing her walk tomorrow.
