Hurricane Sandy is upon us--but the fashion industry isn't letting this Frankenstorm bring them down. We checked in with some of our favorite people in the industry--from The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine to Kelly Cutrone to DKNY PR Girl Aliza Licht--to find out how they prepped for tonight's storm. For an industry that's supposed to shun carbs we are collectively loaded up on them--as well as candy, nail polish, and fashion mags to read by scented candle light. Click through to see how everyone is getting ready. And above all, everybody stay safe!!
The holidays are all about nostalgia and one of the things we've been nostalgic about lately is hand turkeys! You know, that childhood arts and crafts thing where you trace your hand and make it look like a turkey? To be honest, we aren't all that crafty anymore, but our fashion friends, like Erica Domesek from P.S. I Made This for example, are like the craftiest people ever, so we asked them to help us out with this little project and they obliged. Erica helped us assemble hand turkey-making kits, which we then sent out to some of our favorite designers, editors and other fashion peeps who then created some of the most impressive hand turkeys we've ever seen (we are super thankful for all of you!!). Click through to see them and find out what these brilliant artists are thankful for this year, and have a very happy Thanksgiving (or just a nice Thursday).
Our friend Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This fame is making an appearance at the FIT Barnes & Noble tonight from 4 to 7pm to speak about her experiences in the industry and to do a little project. She'll discuss her early days in fashion, how the blog came to be and its unexpected but amazing success. There will be a signing of her book as well, and advice for similarly aspiring fashionites. Afterward she'll show how to DIY a summer staple, the fringed scarf. Make sure to bring an old t-shirt so that you can make your own!

Since we've started a DIY series with Erica Domesek of the fabulous site-turned-book P.S. I Made This, we thought we should get to know her a bit better. So a few weeks ago, I arrived at Erica's East Village apartment mid-morning, expecting to have a brief chat with her to find out more about her site and how it came about. I walked into a cloud of smoke coming out of the oven and Erica muttering something about her lack of a vent. She likes to cook almost as much as she likes to craft, and had prepared baked eggs with spinach and baby tomatoes topped by sliced avocado for our informal "chat." "I love cooking...using my hands to make things, that's what makes me happy," she told me. Lucky me. Getting them out of the oven without a potholder? No problem. A vintage army jacket doubles as a potholder in Erica's world. She took off her jacket and used it to grab the steaming hot eggs, and without missing a beat said, looked up from the oven and said with a wink "P.S. I made this...potholder."
