The Unexpected Costs of Being a Fashion Blogger
As small business owners, top bloggers end up putting quite a bit of their earnings back into operations. Here's what it's costing them.
What We Saw at New York Fashion Week, Day Seven
You guys--she's back. Paris Hilton hit the shows today to check out the Jeremy Scott runway, along with the Jonas brothers and Nicki Minaj. But we saw plenty of other exciting things at day seven of New York Fashion Week. Check 'em out here:
What We Saw at New York Fashion Week, Day Two
We kicked our day off bright and early with the debut of the first ever plus size fashion line to show at fashion week, and never slowed down. From checking out the best beauty backstage at Rag & Bone and Helmut Lang, to scoping models-off-duty, we saw a lot. Check out all the awesome stuff we saw on day two of New York Fashion Week:
Phil Oh and Susie Lau on Their Urban Outfitters Collection Inspired by Gummy Bear Shots and Tacos...Sort Of
If there are two superbloggers easier to love than Phil Oh and Susie Lau, I haven't met them. The proprietors behind Streetpeeper and Style Bubble have each been at the blogging thing for more than half a decade, yet manage to remain far away from the hoopla. And that's probably because Oh, a photographer/writer (who shoots for Vogue.com, amongst others), and Lau, a stylist/writer (who has written for Dazed & Confused and Elle UK, amongst others), have talents far beyond uploading a post on Wordpress. Their most recent collaboration is an expression of their oft-overlapping personal styles and yen for travel: a small collection for Urban Outfitters, Oh, Bubble!, inspired by a whirlwind trip around the world. With Oh in Brooklyn and Lau in London, we talked this morning via email about the project. And other stuff. Like Tokyo Disneyland. And gummy bear jello shots. And Justin Bieber. Because there's way more to these two than fashion.
Style Advice I Learned from My Father
Dads. They get some pretty funny ideas about style. Like that wearing Hawaiian shirts is acceptable year-round. Or that socks with sandals is a totally cool look. But, though they may not be the most obvious style icons in our life, they've certainly passed down their own brand of sartorial wisdom--for better or worse. So, in honor of Father's Day, we asked our favorite fashion and celebrity friends--from Leandra Medine and Olivia Palermo to Wyclef Jean and Richard Chai--to share the most memorable style advice they ever got from their dad.
Tim Blanks on the Street Style Phenomenon: 'It Makes Monsters, It Doesn't Make Gods'
And the fashion circus debate continues. The latest to weigh in is Garage magazine--except instead of bemoaning or celebrating the street style phenomenon one way or another, they merely explore it in this thoughtful new video featuring Tim Blanks, Tommy Ton, Phil Oh (in a bathtub!), Susie Lau and many others. As one might expect, opinions run the gamut.
Band of Outsiders Gets Investors, Kim Kardashian Discovers Maternity Jeans, and Tops Come Off at Paris Fashion Week
Outsiders no more: Band of Outsiders is going into expansion mode with new backing from some as-yet anonymous investors. {WWD} Another model mama in the making! Caroline Trentini is expecting a baby with her photog husband. {Vogue Italia} Kanye West went gorillas at his surprise concert in Paris last night, which obviously included more Maison Margiela masks. {High Snobiety} Meanwhile, West's baby mama Kim Kardashian has finally discovered the joys of maternity jeans! Amen. {Kim Kardashian's blog}
Proof that Street Style Has Lost Its Authenticity
At some point "street style" referred to stylish people wearing their own clothes that they bought and put together in outfits themselves and then just went about their business. Now, there are stylists, PRs, agents, staged shoots, and more factors coming together to take the authenticity out of street style, especially during fashion week. How soon before they just cut the charade of spontaneity and set up an actual red carpet in front of the tents?

Taylor Tomasi Hill Talks Consulting On (Not Designing!) Sigerson Morrison's Fall Collection
Taylor Tomasi Hill (or TTH as she's come to be known) is one of those fashion girls who seems to be doing a million things at once: As the artistic director at Moda Operandi, she is responsible for the shopping site’s editorial content; you probably know her best from looking at any street style blog--where her scarlet hair and standout style make her an easy target; but you might not know that she's also the creative consultant for Sigerson Morrison shoes. Yep, that's a lot of (very stylish) hats. So last evening, at the Bowery Hotel, Sigerson Morrison presented their (vast) fall collection at a party hosted by Tomasi Hill and the Street Peeper’s Phil Oh. And while we overheard TTH tell a fellow editor that she was on a “cleanse day” her enthusiasm for the shoe label overpowered any (probable) faintness she was feeling after a day filled with only juice.
What I Saw at Paris Fashion Week: Day 1
OK, so today wasn't technically day one of Paris fashion week. Anthony Vaccarello started the week off with a bang yesterday--Karlie Kloss' first appe
Fashion News Roundup: Abbey Lee Kershaw May Be in a Spielberg Film, There Are More Details About the Prada/Schiaparelli Met Exhibit, and Angelina Jolie Covers Vogue Turkey
The Other Missing Model: Though we all miss Karlie, many have been surprised this season at the lack of Abbey Lee Kershaw on the runways. Turns out she's having knee surgery tomorrow (ouch!). The model has been plagued with knee issues for years, and we certainly wish her a speedy recovery. But there's also a rumor she's working on the next Spielberg film - something her New York Agency Next Model Management did not confirm or deny. {Frockwriter} Ferragamo Partners with the Louvre: The Italian brand has announced that it will be the exclusive sponsor of the upcoming exhibit "Saint Anne, Leonardo da Vinci's Ultimate Masterpiece,” running from March 29 to June 25 at the Louvre. In an historic move, Ferragamo will show Resort on June 12 in the Denon wing, the first time the Louvre has allowed a fashion show within the museum itself. Chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo considers the sponsorship "a great honor." {WWD} Angelina's Face Covers Vogue Turkey: She's not just a pretty (and hilarious) leg. Jolie looks fantastic on the cover of this month's Turkish edition of Vogue, reminding everyone that her face is just as worthy of attention as her gams. {ONTD}
