The Sally Hansen Global Color Ambassador talks about what it's like to crawl around the floor backstage during fashion month.
This is what happens when you opt out of a traditional runway show.

Before I worked at Fashionista, I was employed by a number of random organizations and companies--including but certainly not limited to Dunkin' Donuts, the US Census, a pizza place (see my bio for how that played out), and Nestle Waters. It was at the latter that I discovered that one, people take their bottled water home deliveries very, very seriously, and more importantly two, this is my favorite nail polish ever.
Skin care, despite the recent popularity of multi-tasking BB and CC creams which claim to do everything, is still pretty specialized. It's not hard to end up with an eight-step skin care routine these days. And now the beauty industry is applying that same personalized approach to nail care.
There's a lot to love about summer--longer days, warmer weather, weekend getaways--but there's a lot to loathe too.
Earlier this week the Skin Cancer Foundation issued a statement about the safety of UV gel manicures. Essentially they said the procedure--which involves sticking your hands under a UV light to set the polish--has a low, yet "not insignificant" risk for skin cancer, and recommended applying sunscreen before you get one of these manis. Up until this point, there had been inconclusive safety evidence for the procedure, but now that an official medical organization has weighed in, how (if at all) is the nail industry going to change its practices?
The last two days have been pretty colorful backstage. From Chloe Norgaard's neon hair and tons of statement lips everywhere, it's been pretty fun to look at. But don't worry, there's plenty of wearable inspiration too, in the form of Kate Moss hair and dewy skin. Click through to check out beauty looks from Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang and tons more.
We spent our Sunday worshipping at the church of fashion--we dragged our sorry selves out of bed really early to check out Victoria Beckham's look at the New York Public Library and lasted all the way until the evening, when we ooh'ed and ah'ed over Zac Posen's signature elegant beauty look. (Start practicing a gorgeous bordeaux lip!)
Fashion month kicks off this week, and while you can sometimes predict what fashion trends will come down the runways based on trends from the pre-fall shows, it's not as easy to guess what kind of beauty looks designers will favor. Luckily we have tons of experts willing to make educated guesses. Click through for makeup, hair, and nail predictions. Will nail art still be big? Will hair be slick and crunchy? Find out!

Even the most enthusiastic of shoppers bemoans the trials of the gift giving holiday season—but fear not, we’ve compiled the best beauty stocking stuffers and tailored it down to very specific recipients. Did you draw a coworker you never speak to in the office Secret Santa? Does your friend work in fashion (and thus, love cats?) Do you have a friend whose secret single behavior is staring at her pores up close in a mirror? Do you have a friend whose lipstick gets on absolutely everything? We’ve got you (and them) covered.
Last November we were introduced to the now 26-year-old Rabbi Yael Buechler, who made headlines for her (yeah, we'll make this joke again) unorthodox way of teaching the Torah to her students. In a program called "Midrash Manicures," she has her students come up with nail art to illustrate their understanding of certain stories and teachings. It's been a runaway success at the Jewish day school where she teaches in suburban New York, and she's since expanded: She is now selling Hanukkah-themed nail art decals for those of us who may find drawing a menorah on our pinkie a bit challenging.
Nude faces (well, except for blue and pink eyes) and nude nails generally ruled the runways for spring 2013, but luckily there is always a faction of designers doing nail art--and Spring 2013 is no exception. While the neons of yore were nowhere in evidence, you can get still get some nail thrills. This season, nail art ran the gamut from subtle sparkles to triple-layered with pearls in between. We loved them all.
