Covered-Up Cover Controversy: People took offense at funny lady Melissa McCarthy's covered-up Elle cover--find out what the mag had to say about it. It's Sweater Season! There's nothing quite like the feeling of wearing a cozy sweater. From sweaters with cuddly animals on them to chunky knits and pastels, we've rounded up all of fall's best sweaters by trend. Does Ichabod Crane Have Nothing Else to Wear? Four episodes into Sleepy Hollow and Ichabod's still in that same Revolutionary War outfit. We talk to the show's costume designer Sanja Hays to find out the reason behind his enduring look.
Seems Terry Richardson's gone back to shooting people with clothes on: Kim Kardashian posted on her blog yesterday that the mutton chopped photog who spawned 1,000 "Wrecking Ball" parodies (and about 100,000 online parental control accounts) is helping her out with the latest Kardashian Kollection for Sears campaign.
Macy's, Amazon, Sears, and Leon Max, were doing their part to save the planet when, a few years ago, they made an effort to sell products labeled as being made with more eco-friendly bamboo textiles--except that, as far as the Federal Trade Commission is concerned, they weren't made of bamboo at all. They were made of rayon.
Out of all the things the Kardashians have designed, swimwear is probably the one that makes the most sense--and needless to say the "designers" man

Lil' Kim is Coming for You, Nicki: Lil' Kim tweeted a "Christmas gift" to her fans; a promo shot for what we are assuming is her upcoming album. The Queen B is dressed in black panties and a turtleneck with large, furry pom poms on the sleeves, and of course, the chest area, so her boobs stay nice and toasty. {Lil' Kim Twitter} Don't Go Shopping in Australia: 44% of Australians report the sales staff in their country is rude and pushy, while another 22% say they are lazy. The Kardashian sisters officially launched their Kardashian Kollection for Sears at their campaign photographer Annie Liebovitz's studio in the meatpacking district Tuesday night. And while I, and most of the guests at the press preview, had gotten soaked through thanks to an unending downpour, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe looked impeccably coiffed and, yes, chic in their Sears' togs--not to mention enviably dry. Since the Kardashians are a family that sticks together, mama Kris was there too--looking super hot in that black polka-dot sheer Stella McCartney--and so was Kourtney's beau Scott Disick. The sisters were on publicist lock-down and not talking to any reporters (save the NYT, sad face), so we happily chatted with Bruno Schiavi--the designer who worked with the sisters to produce their Sears collection. Kim, Kourtney and Khloe might be sisters by they've got different styles. "Kim's Hollywood, Kourtney's the bohemian and Khloe's the rocker," Schiavi explained, "and we tried to blend them together." And it seems they blend well. Even though the collection has only been on Sears' shelves for less than a week, items from the collection have already sold out--before the official launch.
The Kardashian Kollection for Sears just launched, and the campaign was shot by the legendary Annie Leibovitz. While this may seem surprising, the Kardashians are money, so why not promote them with the best imagery possible? The girls will be feted by Sears and Leibovitz with a pre-fashion week party next week at the photographer's own studio. Let's hope this means we'll see them in some front rows at the shows. As reality stars go, a Kardashian sighting is much better than a Real Housewife. Check out their campaign shoot video below, courtesy of Elle. It features the girls lolling around on the ground (a questionable look, because when you lie down, things spread a bit--but they seem to be pulling it off), smoldering on a couch, and stomping Tyra-like in leopard looks.
The bag on the left is Botkier's 'Trigger Clyde,' which debuted in Fall 2009. The bag on the right is from Sears' Kardashian Kollection, which hit stores this week. See the problem? Botkier certainly does. The contemporary womenswear brand, which launched in 2004, took to their blog to vent: "We just discovered how our Botkier ‘Clyde’ was simply copied by Kardashian Kollection for Sears. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but we don’t think so…"
The Kardashian's highly anticipated kollection (last time promise) for Sears launches on August 11 but Lucky's got a look at their full 41-piece collection for the department store. If you want to look like the Kardashians then this collection is for you. The pieces--especially the curve hugging cut out stretch dresses--really look like what Kim, Kourtney and Khloe wear. The line features everything from tight mini dresses to jump suits (we're not at all mad at these, we're surprised to say), blingy accessories, bags, heels, sunglasses, and sexy matchy matchy lingerie. And nothing is over $70. If you're itching to get your hands on it now, you can pre shop a preview of the collection now at Sears. Click through to see highlights from collection (head over Lucky to see every last bra and bag). Will you bite? If you want to look like the Kardashians then this collection is for you. Do you shop at Sears? The retailer has had to deal with some serious image issues in the last decade and is trying to give itself a makeover. To that end, WWD reports this morning that Sears introduced beauty departments in about 100 stores, and is hoping to increase that number. Right now the beauty centers stock brands traditionally found in the drugstore--like L’Oreal, Cover Girl, Maybelline, Revlon and Physicians Formula. Sears is also dabbling in higher end brands like Ahava, Dermalogica, and Burt’s Bees, and it hopes to expand its offerings. Since drugstores aren’t really found in malls anymore, Sears is hoping to carve out a niche for itself by offering shoppers brands traditionally found in drugstores but that they can’t get at say, Macy’s. The industry experts WWD interviewed for the story seem kind of lukewarm on the whole concept.
Is this what fashion has come to? Last night, fellow Canadian and host of America's (and Canada's) Next Top Model, Jay Manuel debuted his much-hyped collection for Sears. With top dollars spent on splashy campaigns and a media circuit run that would make your head spin, Manuel’s new line ATTITUDE left a lasting first impression. The show, which ran an hour late, opened with a mini-montage that documented Manuel's deep involvement with the label, from concept to completion. From sketching to sewing, the clip almost had us fooled that Manuel created the pieces himself, but alas his title still read "Creative Director." As the lights dimmed and music blared, the first look hit the glossy black runway and the show’s "special guest" arrived, veteran model Yasmin Warsame (perhaps Tyra was to busy hitting the books or washing her face). What followed Warsame's power strut were a string of work wear looks that spoke to the masses. From mundane to matronly, Manuel's high fashion taste didn't seem to cross the border.
What do you get when people from MTV, Sears and High School Musical join forces? They say, "summer blockbuster". We say, longest commercial ever. T
