Last night the shoe mogul made a speech at the Footwear Achievement Awards, joking that he wasn't allowed on the board because "You may have heard I was in prison or something.” Har dee har. {NY Post} Beware The Hypodermic Needles at WalMart: Shoppers at a WalMart in Cartersville, Georgia were surprised with a little treat of the hypodermic needle sort. There’s no question as to why 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist Cushnie et Ochs is a favorite amongst red carpet starlets like Jessica Alba, Rihanna, and Olivia Wilde. The label is known for its sexy body-con silhouettes, strategically suggestive cut-outs and supple leather pieces, and the upcoming Spring season definitely keeps up the heat. The first look down the runway--a stark white and super cleavage-y strapless peplum dress--set the tone. The theme throughout the looks: dominatrix-esque leather cut-outs, criss-cross detailing and tons of peplum. The leather pieces are easily translated for Spring--our favorites included the black leather bustier dress with flared skirt, the reverse version with a stretch fabric bustier top with leather flared skirt, and a body-con peplum moto-vest. As the 90s silhouettes rang strong, we couldn’t help but think of the Thierry Mugler-directed and supermodel-populated 1992 George Michael “Too Funky” video, which also featured Mugler’s drop-dead sexy moto-inspired bodysuits.
After her brief and less than well-received stint as Pop's editor-in-chief, it sounds like Dasha Zhukova has finally found a place to do her fashion-meets-art thing her way. Her new magazine, Garage, debuts for fall 2011 and the New York Times' Eric Wilson got a preview. The art collector, fashion designer, and girlfriend of Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, named the magazine after the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, a museum she opened in Moscow in 2008. Garage’s art director, Mike Meiré tells the Times, “It is so very, very different from other magazines,” and that sounds pretty accurate. According to Wilson, it "looks almost handmade." The inaugural issue has multiple covers: One was a collaboration between artist Dinos Champan and Show Studio's Nick Knight and features a creepy dollhouse in which a puppet version of Lily Donaldson wears Marc Jacobs. Another cover features a model shot nude from the waist down, her nether regions covered by a butterfly sticker that can be peeled off to reveal...a butterfly tattoo. On a vagina.
This week was all about innate style--these ladies just know how to dress. Shala Monroque continued her red carpet streak in Jason Wu, while Katie Holmes wore her own design from Holmes & Yang's stunning spring collection. Rihanna looked sophisticated in a bone-colored Max Azria suit, and Lauren Santo Domingo stepped out to dinner at The Lion with Versace in one of the label's colorful offerings. Marc Jacobs-lover Rose Byrne wore a fancy black lace suit by the designer.
Paris Fashion Week is always a wonderland for front row style.
Everyone loves to bemoan the state of fashion today: it's too fast, it's too big, it's too corporate, it's too global, it's too accessible, they say. But no one really does anything about it. Technology speeds things up and fashion follows. Everyone wants more and they want it now. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. But last night one of fashion's most respected brands brought together some of fashion's most respected names to slow things down, talk, and reflect about the state of fashion. Lauren and I felt very lucky to attend Miu Miu's second "Miu Miu Musing" hosted by the incredibly gorgeous and stylish Shala Monroque, who looked like a Miu Miu barbie doll in a bright red wig. The theme for the evening's salon discussion was "constructive superficiality."
Street style is such a huge inspiration for us, and it's always fun to spot new stars emerging each season. Here's who we'll be watching this Fashion Month.
While the biggest mainstream fashion news unearthed over the weekend seems to be the rumor of Anna Wintour receiving the Legion d'Honneur, the style blogosphere is rife with good bits. This morning, Sea of Shoes' Jane Aldridge revealed that she's been hanging out in New York and was photographed by Garance Dore for an upcoming spread/campaign of some sort. Style Bubble's Susie Lau was also in town, so we're speculating that she too may be involved. We're also going to assume that it's for an advert, not an editorial, given the exposure these ladies have already received in the glossies. But we're sure whatever it is, it's bound to look lovely... Over in TaviTulle's world, it's all about ALT and Miu Miu.

In alphabetical order, we present to you our top 30 best dressed of the year.
