Rachel Zoe's reality TV days are officially over. Let's reminisce over the past five tumultuous years.
The Clothes: It's no surprise that the Herve women is sexy and confident when she wears a frock, it's just how she chooses to execute it. This season
As much as we loved Brad's cute little bowties and Jeremiah's cute little tuchus lighting up our lives every week on The Rachel Zoe Project, things just weren't quite the same following the untimely and unpleasant departure of Rachel's first on-screen assistant, Taylor Jacobson. Even though she often came off as being a bit (to put it nicely) short, she certainly started out the series with arguably more stylist cred and experience than either of her successors. And everyone knows how frustrating it can be explaining the job you've been doing expertly for a while to a total newbie (well, sort of newbie...we love you Brad!). But after several years away from an ever present camera crew, Taylor's getting back into the reality tv game with a new series premiering soon on Oxygen called LA Style.
Yesterday, while waiting to interview one of the vampire celebs at DKNY, we spotted former Rachel Zoe assistant Taylor Jacobson for the first time this week. She was looking way less disgruntled than she did in those early seasons of The Rachel Zoe Project and graciously chatted with us for a minute about her new reality show, which was filming there. She didn't say much other than the new show "shows a younger generation of stylists who do different variations of work like music videos, editorial, red carpet generic commercials" and she's looking forward to J. Mendel and Michael Kors. Later, we realized: Three celebrity stylists, who at one point all worked together, had a falling out, and now have their own reality shows, are all at New York Fashion Week right now.
Having worked for Rachel Zoe seems to be a blessing and a curse. A curse, I suppose, because staffers never leave on good terms, but more of a blessing because the exposure they get working for Zoe and being on her reality show leads to their own reality shows. Brad Goreski's show, It's a Brad Brad World, is already up and running on Bravo (and we're loving it), and now OG Zoe styling associate Taylor Jacobson is getting her own show on Oxygen. It's true she had a stint as a judge on Oxygen's "fantasy hair design competition series," Hair Battle Spectacular, but it was announced back in October (um, yeah, we just never noticed until now) that she's got top billing on a new Oxygen show called LA Style set to air sometime this year.
Tim Gunn Hates Everyone, and Doesn't Hide It: Granted, everything he says is usually spot on. Gunn just shot an episode of Gossip Girl and had some not-so-nice things to say about Taylor Momsen, including: "She was pathetic, she couldn't remember her lines, and she didn't even have that many. I thought to myself 'why are we all being held hostage by this brat?'" {E! Online} Brad Goreski, on the other hand, had nicer things to say about a former co-worker named Taylor. He spoke of Ms. Jacobson's split from the company (which happened a really long time ago, but people are still about it): “I hear she's doing really really well and I think that’s great. I wish her all the luck in the world.” {Hollywood Life} Obama Gets Bush's Approval: That would be Michelle Obama, who has the style approval of former first niece Lauren Bush. Bush attended Carolina Herrera's show and said of Mrs. O, "I think [her sense of style] is great, I think it’s wonderful that she’s supporting young designers I think that's very cool.” {Daily News}
The Rachel Zoe Project returns to Bravo on August 3rd for it's third season and we're sure it's going to be, you know, bananas, and that there will be much shutting of front doors. Celeb cameos this season include Demi Moore, Gwen Stefani, Naomi Campbell (she styled the model's Fashion for Relief show to benefit quake-ravaged Haiti) and Kate Hudson. We just got off a press call with the Zoeinator (and many other bloggers and editors) and while she was surprisingly sparse with her "Zoe-isms" we did glean a few interesting tidbits about the show, her much-hyped falling out with Taylor, and her most regrettable sartorial choices.
Get a Clue: L.A. boutique Confederacy has teamed up with Francisco Costa to reproduce and sell the iconic white Calvin Klein dress that Alicia Silverstone wore in Clueless. (Recall the scene between Cher and her father: "What the hell is that?" "A dress." "Says who?" "Calvin Klein.") The dress will be sold online and in-store for $915. We're, like, totally excited. {Daily Front Row} Taylor-Made: Rachel Zoe's former assistant Taylor Jacobson is now working as Kate Beckinsale's stylist. It's a high profile gig for Jacobson. Last thing we heard, she was consulting for denim line Kasil. Maybe her former boss won't be so harsh now. {Hollywood Life} The Teacher As Student: You probably wouldn't expect the Editor-In-Chief of Marie Claire to be taking her cues from haul vloggers Blair and Elle Fowler (ages 16 and 21, respectively), but that's exactly what she did. Check out Coles' "What's In My Bag" spoof vlog. {Marie Claire}
