Fashionista Week in Review: The Sea of Shoes Controversy, How To Dress Like a Spice Girl Today and the Best Fashion Schools for Marketing, Journalism, and PR
Get Your Girl Power On: Nearly 15 years later, it is still all about the Spice Girls as a musical based on the group is in the works. Chances are good you've picked a favorite and stuck with her (Ginger!) and we put together a guide to recreating those infamous looks. We think it's high time Union Jack motifs and platform boots made their comeback. Hip Hop and High Fashion: Rappers and hip hop artists have never shied away from the fashion world, and with recent releases by Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, we're reminded just how much our favorite MCs love their labels. Fashion News Roundup: Jessica Simpson Knocks Off Christian Louboutin, the Real Reason Prom Got So Slutty, and the Cigarette that Caused the Fire at Macy's
Jessica Simpson's Shoes Look a Lot Like Louboutins: Jessica Simspon better watch her (already extremely strained) back. The singer turned mainstream fashion mogul has been accused of knocking off one of Christian Louboutin's shoe designs. We'd be hard-pressed to say that the J.Simps' shoes don't look the spitting image of Loub's (those are hers on the right, CL's on the left), but at least they don't feature those red soles that landed YSL in the messiest (and never-ending) fashion suit of the year. {NY Mag} So How Did Prom Get So Slutty? No, we don't mean what happens after the dance... we're talking dresses. From poofy tulle creations to Jersey Shore bling, here's an in-depth look at what really caused the Real Housewife-ication of high school proms. It all started in 2005... {BuzzFeed Shift} So-Last-Season Style: Does your style have an expiration date? One girl defends her undying love for those glittery Miu Miu pumps that had already been shunned by most of the fash pack before they even made it to market. {Refinery29} Harpers Bazaar's Zoe Bruns Going to J.Crew: Looks like J.Crew's crew is growing! Fashion Faceoff: The Style Evolution of Kate Winslet Vs. Leonardo DiCaprio
Titanic hits theaters tomorrow for the first time in about fifteen years--though this time the drama, action and the infamous iceberg will be bigger thanks to 3-D technology. But that's not the only thing that's grown--the film's stars, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio's fame has also sky-rocketed since the movie first hit theaters. And according to Winslet, Leo has, um, grown in other ways as well. The English actress said of the film, "We do look very different, we’re older. Leo’s 37, I’m 36 – we were 21 and 22 when we made that film. You know, he’s fatter now – I’m thinner.” ...You said it, Kate, not us! Check out our round up of Leo and Kate through the years– through thick and thin, in both weight and fashion. Has Kate’s style stayed afloat, and did Leo’s sink with the ship? Titanic Red Carpet Premiere Style, Then (1997) and Now
A lot's changed since the 1997 premiere of Titanic: Kate Winslet won an Oscar (and went blonde), James Cameron made Avatar and Leonardo Dicaprio is no longer a baby-faced Jack Dawson (though he still has a thing for models). Last night, a good part of the Titanic crew showed up to fete the world premiere of the film's 3D release in London, and we couldn't help but reminisce about the film's first premiere and how much everyone had changed, especially Kate--something that Winslet herself agrees with. The actress told the Metro, "It is like being forced to go through a photo album of your former self for three and a half hours solidly." She added, "I haven't seen the whole film in a very long time but it's a whole different me and we look much younger and our acting was different, hopefully not as good as now." Ditto for her personal style! Click through to see side-by-side comparisons of Titanic's major players then, and now.
